Cole Hamels bobblehead

The Phillies’ Cole Hamels bobblehead looks absolutely nothing like him

Phillies legend and World Series MVP Cole Hamels is set to retire this weekend, and the franchise is pulling out all the stops to honor him. One of them is a commemorative bobblehead of his likeness, a pretty classic move for a baseball organization to do.

There’s just one problem… it looks nothing like Cole Hamels. The guys over at the Absolutely Hammered pod pointed a former Phillie it resembles much closer:

I mean… yeah. That does not look like him at all. He’s a famously handsome fella, and this didn’t do him justice at all.

I understand that bobblehead art is far from an exact science. These guys aren’t Michelangelo working with pristine marble. These bad boys are factory-made for a one-off giveaway; we’re not getting the bobblehead industry’s best and brightest, either.

But this is Cole Hamels. You tell me if this one is even close.

Now, this isn’t nearly as bad as Scott Rolen’s plaque on the Wall of Fame. That right there would be a lot less funny if the guy didn’t openly despise Philadelphia.

Don’t get me wrong—this is still funny, but Hamels deserves just a little bit better than this effort. I’ve seen present-day Phillies have their bobbleheads bear a much better resemblance.

Alec Bohm comes to mind. Granted, he – while a handsome devil himself – has almost cartoonish features that lend themselves well to sculpture.

Regardless of all of this, it’s set to be a beautiful weekend in South Philly to honor Hamels. He’s earned the fanfare, and the fans and organization are going to show him the love he deserves.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
