Bryce Harper held accountable in 5 RBI performance against the Detroit Tigers, Phillies win 8-1
As the old saying goes, when the weather gets hot, the Phillies do too. Yesterday in Detroit, The Fightins kicked off a three-game series against the Tigers and won in dominating fashion, 8-1, backed by scorching hot performances from Aaron Nola, Bryce Harper, and Alec Bohm.
With the win, the Phillies improved to an MLB-best 52-26 on the season. They are 6-4 over their last 10 games and are back to a 8-game stranglehold on the Atlanta Braves for the National League East division lead.

Welcome to the Show Michael Mercado
One month ago, I wrote an article about Michael Mercado and how he had a better chance in getting called up to the big leagues over Mick Abel.
Back in 2017, Mercado was a Top 100 Draft prospect. The Tampa Bay Rays drafted him in the second round but he underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2019 that kept him off the mound for nearly three years.
Last season, Mercado touched Triple A with the Rays before being acquired by the Phillies, who added him to the 40-man roster before the start of the 2024 season.
Mercado posted a 1-1 record with a 1.71 ERA over 14 appearances in Triple A Lehigh Valley this season. He had 44 strike outs in 47.1 innings pitched with a 1.14 WHIP.
With Taijuan Walker heading to the 15-Day Injured list, the Phillies gave Mercado the nod and he made his major league debut yesterday in Detroit, pitching a clean eighth inning in relief of Aaron Nola. Mercado tossed a scoreless frame and notched his first MLB strikeout in the process.
Speaking of Aaron Nola, he dazzled yesterday, tossing seven innings while allowing one earned run, walking zero and striking out six.
Another Filthy Aaron Nola Knuckle Curve.

Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm
If we’re being honest, yesterday was all about the Phillies’ offense and the insane numbers that Bryce Harper continues to put up while our very own Philly Sports Talk Radio hosts (Spike Eskin) dish out insane takes on our airwaves.
Spike Eskin goes on insane rant telling fans to ‘hold Bryce Harper accountable’
Harper responded to Spike, much to the joy of everyone on Twitter, by going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. He notched 5 RBI on the day, bringing his total to 56 on the season.

There isn’t a player in Major League Baseball performing better than Bryce Harper but if you want a “runner-up” then look no further the next guy in the Phillies lineup, Alec Bohm.
Bryce Harper:
- Last 7 Games: .484 AVG, 10 RBI, 4 HR
- Last 15 Games: .426 AVG, 12 RBI, 5 HR
- Last 30 Games: .345 AVG, 21 RBI, 9 HR
Alec Bohm:
- Last 7 Games: ..414 AVG, 7 RBI, 3 HR
- Last 15 Games: .377 AVG, 14 RBI, 3 HR
- Last 30 Games: .289 AVG, 27 RBI, 5 HR
Not to be outdone, the Phillies No. 4 hitter, Alec Bohm continued to RAKE – going 4-for-5 with 3 RBI, which included a double and home run of his own.
