WATCH: Contestant vomits all over stage at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Patrick Bertoletti wins ‘Mickey Mouse Championship’ in the absense of Joey Chestnut
The main event at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest was delayed on the 4th of July after a contestant from a previous competition vomited all over the stage.
Between the men’s and women’s hot dog eating contests, Nathan’s holds a quick competition for chugging a gallon of their famous lemonade. Eric “Badlands” Booker won the event for the fourth year in a row, setting a new record of 21 seconds, beating his previous 23.58 seconds.

Booker managed to keep the lemonade down when he received his title belt, but the contestant next to him couldn’t stomach it and ended up vomiting on the stage multiple times, causing a big reaction from the audience in attendance and a viral video on social media.
The name plates for the men’s Hot Dog Eating Contest contestants were on stage, causing a delay while organizers cleaned up the mess. The contestant who got sick continued to vomit as he exited the stage.
Patrick Bertoletti wins Nathan’s Hot Dog ‘Mickey Mouse Championship’
Patrick Bertoletti, ranked 9th in the world, is the new Mustard Belt holder after winning his first Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. He downed a career-high 58 hot dogs and buns, narrowly beating pre-contest favorite Geoffrey Esper.
Of course, fans on social media are considering Bertoletti’s win as a Mickey Mouse Championship given the fact that the GOAT of competitive food eating Joey Chestnut was barred from competing by Major League Eating due to an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods.
Chestnut did his own event and crushed 57 hotdogs over 5 minutes. If he needed to beat 58, there’s no reason to believe that he wouldn’t have gotten at least 60 down to take home another belt at the Nathan’s contest.
Chestnut won 16 of the last 17 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contests. His 76 hot dogs and buns in 2021 remains the world record. He hasn’t ruled out a return to the contest, but for now, Bertoletti represents the first non-Chestnut winner since 2015.
