WATCH: Evan Fournier ejected from France-Germany game after choking fellow NBA player Dennis Schroder

A “friendly” game between Team France and Team Germany on Saturday night turned out to be everything but that, as Evan Fournier was ejected from the game in the second quarter after choking fellow NBA player Dennis Schroder. 

The brawl happened with France leading 41-23 late in the first half en route to a dominating 90-66 win. Schroder was attacking the basket when he collided with Fournier who slid over to defend him. He fell the ground and upon getting to his feet, put both hands around Fournier’s neck, which prompted Fournier to do the same.

Fournier and Schroder seemed to reconcile after the fight, but Fournier was still ejected from the game.

The 31-year-old Fournier is currently an NBA free agent. He has played 12 years in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Detroit Pistons, with an average of 13.6 points per game.

The 30-year-old Schröder currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets. He has played for 11 years with several teams including the Hawks, Thunder, Lakers, Celtics, Rockets, Raptors, and Nets. Throughout his career, he has averaged 14.0 points per game and 4.8 assists per game.

The fight was posted all over social media, but the French player Victor Wembanyama stole the show on the night. Wemby scored 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting in only 19 minutes of action to lead France to victory.

France and Germany are set to compete in the Summer Olympics in Paris. They will face each other on Aug. 2 as they are in the same group.
