Lebron James drops bombshell on how his son Bronny is dealing with the spotlight and criticism since being selected by the Lakers No. 55 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft
LeBron James stated that his son, Bronny James, who joined the Los Angeles Lakers after being selected No. 55 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, is well-prepared to handle the intense attention he’s receiving – the majority of which has been criticism.
“I don’t think people truly understand Bronny,” James shared with ESPN in an interview following USA Basketball practice on Sunday, as the national team continues to prepare for the Paris Olympics.
“He just doesn’t care. I actually care a little. When I started out as a rookie, I wanted people to like me, and the criticism bothered me early in my career. … But Bronny? He really doesn’t give a f—.”
“He doesn’t care about anyone’s opinions. He doesn’t even pay attention to that stuff. He’s the coolest, totally different from his dad. His dad would respond to critics, but Bronny just doesn’t care. … No matter what’s said about him, he truly doesn’t care.”

LeBron James drops a powerful quote about his son Bronny:

“Just imagine if you were a kid, you were born into a situation where your dad was super famous, super wealthy and you the kid still had the drive to want to be able to accomplish things for yourself… I personally don't… pic.twitter.com/nAXE0hu7I9
LeBron James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with a net worth exceeding $1 billion knows a thing or two about dealing with pressure and criticism. He’s spent 21 years in the league and has been in the spotlight since his high school days – way before he was selected No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft.
LeBron also mentioned that his 19-year-old son remains grounded despite all the success surrounding him.
I must admit, as someone who was annoyed with Lebron essentially forcing his son into the NBA, I suddenly find myself rooting for Bronny.
As much as what was made about his son declaring for the draft after having a very poor season last year at USC, it’s not like he was a lottery pick.
Bronny wound up being a 2nd round pick, which is where teams take shots on prospects every single year. Did it help that LeBron is in Los Angeles already? Absolutely. Is Bronny worth a No. 55 overall pick in the NBA Draft after scoring just 5 points per game at USC his freshman year? Probably not, but who cares?
Being the son of Lebron James comes with the pressure that really no one could even imagine. I doubt blame LeBron for wanting to play basketball with his son.
I do wish they would stop lying about it and just handle this entire saga in a more direct and truthful manner. There’s no reason they should sugarcoat anything. LeBron wanted to play with Bronny. End of story.
Maybe it’s just the “Philly Underdog” in me but all of the sudden, I find myself rooting for Bronny James. Given the criticism surrounding him, I hope he shocks the NBA world and turns out to be a great player in the future.
