Dianna Russini talked Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts locker room drama from last season on her podcast, failed to realize nobody in Philly cares anymore
Dianna Russini and co-host Chase Daniel just dropped a new episode of The Athletic’s “Scoop City” podcast and speculated on what was going on last NFL season between Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Dianna Russini on ‘drama‘ between Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts
“So last year there was some disconnect between them, in their personalities… Those ten wins were a grind from what I was told. Every win felt like a really big feat for them because of the challenges that they were facing in terms of what they were doing on offense. It was Nick Sirianni’s show. It was all Nick. Playcall – everything you saw on that field was Sirianni.”
Wow, thanks Dianna Russini. I’m over here trying to enjoy my summer before gearing up for what should be yet another crazy Eagles season and now you’re out there, dropping fairytales on your podcast on The Athletic trying to slander the good names of House Sirianni and Hurts in the middle of July?
Simply can’t be bothered with such nonsense. Between Russini and that stupid Sportskeeda “Overrated Eagles Players” list, we’re just hitting all the sweet spots in July, let me tell ya.
Eagles fans when the media talks about last season:
Maybe Dianna Russini is onto something here but this is hardly breaking news or some “scoop” on the inner-workings of the Philadelphia Eagles locker room.
This is such an old story to begin with and I really don’t think any Philadelphia Eagles fan actually cares about what happened last season. Everyone wants to move forward, focus on our team heading into the 2024-25 season, and see what the new coordinators can do with Sirianni at the helm and Jalen Hurts under center.
These types of reports are released any time a team crumbles down the stretch and completely sucks ass. Any sports team who finds massive success over an extended period of time, only to finish in disastrous fashion, will have some type of “unrest” in the locker room.
It’s a shock to the system and immediately, human nature wants you to look for reasons as to why it happened, while also casting blame on anyone else besides yourself.
Point being, I’m not letting some mid-July headline about Hurts and Sirianni ruin my summer. I simple can’t be bothered by it.
The 2024-25 Philadelphia Eagles will feature Saquon Barkley lined up next to Jalen Hurts on an offense that also includes AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and an elite offensive line. I’ll worry about that and let the “spicy rumors about the locker room” be a thing of the past.
Hurts mad about the offense? Yeah, I think everyone was pretty pissed about it actually – and rightfully so. That’s literally why Jeffery Lurie and Howie Roseman cleaned house around Sirianni heading into this season. I’m sure no one in the locker room was happy after the Eagles started last year on fire, only to finish the season a shell of their once former-selves.
If Hurts wasn’t happy then there’s really only one other place in the locker room to direct his frustration. Obviously Nick Sirianni was going to hear about it and Sirianni, who was relying on former Offensive Coordinator Brian Johnson to get things fixed, was probably frustrated at his staff for failing to figure it out.
That’s if you believe what Diana Russini is saying. Personally, I don’t buy what she’s selling.
I guess last season, the Eagles technically used Sirianni’s offensive scheme but he wasn’t the one calling the plays and there was a glaring need for adjustments, dating back to Week 1.
Brian Johnson was the play-caller and visibly did nothing to help correct the issues the unit he was in charge of find their way. Go check out Mississippi State or Florida with Biran Johnson handling offensive duties. The differences are night and day.
Not to mention, I’m sure Johnson, a long time coworker and friend of Hurts, was also adding fuel to the fire as things fell apart and weren’t working, placing blame on the head coach instead of him in effort to save his ass.
Is that true? No clue but if Dianna Russini can speculate and pretend that she knows how things went down in the locker room, then I definitely can do the same.
If you want to question Jalen Hurts for not handling this himself, I think that’d be a step in the right direction. We can also blame Sirianni for allowing his football team’s dirty laundry to be leaked to the media and criticize his ability to keep his franchise quarterback, along with other guys on the unit, happy when times were tough.
Fine. Whatever.
Throughout this entire mess, I still go back to Brian Johnson and is failure to get things worked out with the Eagles offense. The guy was calling plays that time and time again were clearly not working. Even someone who never watched football could identify the Eagles’ offense was broken after watching 2-3 drives last year.
There was too much talent and too little results. Anything outside of that is just pointless speculation and dialogue to carry us into next season.
