Eagles Cam Heyward

Eagles listed as potential landing spot for All-Pro defensive tackle

With Eagles training camp right around the corner, Howie Roseman is hard at work finalizing his preseason roster.

Although free agency and the NFL Draft are in the rearview at this point, there’s still plenty of big fish available on the trade market. One of the biggest being Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro DT Cam Heyward.

According to Bleacher Report, they believe Cam Heyward could be on the move. If not before the season, definitely by the trade deadline if Pittsburgh struggles out the gate. The outlet also believes the Philadelphia Eagles would be a strong suitor for Heyward if he does become available.

Bleacher Report on Cam Heyward and a potential Eagles fit

The Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles are two teams that would be sensible suitors for Heyward. Both are entering 2024 with a win-now mentality, both had defensive issues in 2023, and both rank inside the top 10 in terms of available cap space.

Philadelphia doesn’t necessarily need a defensive tackle heading into camp. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis are slated to be the main starters along the interior, now that Fletcher Cox is retired. Nevertheless, Roseman has always over-invested into his defensive line. And more often than not, it’s paid off for him and the team.

At 35 years old, Heyward only has a year or two left of productive football. He’s coming off a down year where he battled injuries, appearing in just 11 games and only recording two sacks on the season.

It was the first ‘bad’ season Heyward has had in some time. From 2017 through 2022, Heyward made six consecutive Pro Bowls and earned first-team All-Pro honors twice.

Heyward is a future Hall of Famer, there’s no denying that. But will the Eagles actually go out and spend assets to get him at this stage in his career? I wouldn’t put it past Howie, but I also think the organization is very comfortable with the players in the DT room right now. Aside from Carter and Davis, Milton Williams is a solid rotational piece, along with other young tackles like Moro Ojomo and Marlon Tuipulotu.

There’s certainly a chance Howie looks into this. I just wouldn’t bank on it.
