Outdated Eagles Rumors: Howie Roseman’s major role in Nick Sirianni’s coordinator hires this past offseason
For what seems like the hundredth time this Eagles report has come out, we still have to address it.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini touched on a lot of the same old shit regarding the Eagles last season, from the locker room dynamic, Jalen Hurts, and obviously, she beat the old drum on head coach Nick Sirianni. However, her podcast also touched on general manager Howie Roseman, who “had his hands all over” both new coordinator hires.
Before we dive into that, it’s worth noting that Sirianni is catching major strays for the staleness and ultimate downfall of the Eagles offense last season. While I’m not dismissing it completely, it just feels like these sports media entities are just digging for clicks because it is all stuff we knew already.
Eagles coach receiving the blame yet again (We already knew this)
REPORT: Nick Sirianni is seemingly “100%” responsible for the #Eagles poor play calling and stagnant offense last season, says @DMRussini.

With that said…
Howie Roseman and the Eagles have moved on and put Sirianni in a much better position to highlight his strengths. He’s in a “CEO” style of head-coaching role. This frustrates me because we praise all these other coaches in the league in similar roles, but Sirianni is viewed as someone who doesn’t have a defined role. It seems pretty defined to me.
We forget Nick is still incredibly young, and you can’t take away from the fact that he was the head coach of the team that nearly beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl a few years ago. He took on more responsiblity (deservingly so) after that season and unfortunately it didn’t work out. The Eagles have since pivoted and repositioned their coaching staff in a much better way. That’s all there is to it.
Now, for the coordinator hiring process
If you remember correctly, Sirianni presented Jefferey Lurie and Howie Roseman with a plan to fix these problems after the Eagles lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card game. He ended up retaining his job because he was open to “doing some things differently.”
So, for all those acting like Russini is dropping some bombshell of a report, I’m sorry you were fooled. No shit Howie Roseman is the one calling the shots. He’s arguably the best GM in football and has built several championship-worthy teams, including the one that beat the New England Patriots in 2017.
The Eagles expect to return to the Super Bowl this season. I can’t imagine a team with such lofty standards would bring back a head coach they didn’t believe in. If you want to say he’s on the hot seat or whatever, have at it. I won’t deny that because of the team’s rumored interest in Bill Belichick. But this is just how their front office thinks, and they are always trying to improve and think ahead of everyone else.
None of this is shocking and we need to just keep it moving.
