Dog Days of Summer: Phillies are debut sponsorship patch amid worst stretch of the season
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
America’s pastime is a grueling 162-game season filled with massive highs and crushing lows.
The Phillies, specifically, are in the midst of their worst stretch of baseball this season and, really, of the Rob Thomson era.
In July, the Phils posted a 10-13 record. They haven’t won a series since they swept the Los Angeles Dodgers from the 9th to the 11th.
They are 6-9 over their last 15 games and 3-7 over their last 10.
The entire lineup is playing like absolute dog shit – including the pitching staff. Not to mention, once we wrap things up with the Yankees today, we go on a gulag-like road trip with stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Arizona.
If you think the Fightins have been bad since returning from the All-Star Break, just wait until we get through the next two weeks.
Unfortunate Timing.
Today, the Phillies will debut a sponsorship patch on the sleeve of their uniforms, becoming the 22nd team in Major League Baseball to feature advertising on its jerseys.
I think we’re all in agreement that the timing of the sponsor patch could have been better, right?
An oversized IBX patch on the side of the Philadelphia Phillies uniforms to go along with a hype video for the release?
Am I going insane, or is this type of content completely unnecessary?

Here I thought the craziest people paying attention to the Phillies were the ones who think this team is turning into the baseball version of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Scratch that.
The craziest people paying attention to the Phillies are the ones who treat grown men like they are “sweet angel babies” on Twitter while continuously attempting to make political statements by referencing players in the locker room.
I’m not getting into that because they are beyond annoying and the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
Just scroll through Twitter’s “For You” feed, and you’ll see what I mean.
Regardless, as it turns out, the craziest people concerned with the Phillies are actually members of their internal marketing team.
Who woulda thought?!
I mean seriously, does ANYONE actually care about the sponsorship patch?
I would bet good money on an astounding amount of “no” responses to the question.
The Phils could literally have a dick patch on their uniforms, and I wouldn’t care as long as they are winning baseball games. That just hasn’t happened over the past month.
I know I went off on a few different rants here, but here’s a recap just so everyone knows where I stand.
IBX Patches are too big.
IBX Patch Hype Video was a flop.
Phillies are fine, just in a slump.
“Phillies Twitter” is exhausting.
