Calum Scott is standing by with ‘Dancing On My Own’ if the Phillies are looking to reset after a rough month of July
The Philadelphia Phillies were just swept at home by the New York Yankees. They no longer hold the best record in baseball, and have watched their dominant lead in the National League and NL East dwindle after posting a 10-14 record in the month of July.
While Phillies fans are searching for answers, Calum Scott is ready to “break the glass” and get ‘Dancing On My Own’ back in the Phillies clubhouse to help turn things around.
Calum Scott ready to bring back ‘Dancing On My Own’ to Phillies Clubhouse
While I appreciate that Calum Scott is standing by and ready to help the Philadelphia Phillies, like I said back in June when it was announced he would be coming to the Fillmore, I think we’re a little late on ‘DOMO’ here in the city of Brotherly Love.
Again, I’m not here to bash Calum Scott. “Dancing On My Own” defined Red October and Phillies baseball over the past two years and I’ll be forever grateful for the song that guided us through the journey.
I also want to credit Calum Scott for interacting with Phillies fans on social media. He gets in the replies on tweets and has thanked the team, the city, and fans on countless numbers of occasions for embracing “Dancing On My Own”.
He definitely should be doing that.
While the song was already popular, the Phillies and fans alike helped catapult Scott’s remix to 1 billion streams on Spotify. The song was EVERYWHERE – from Rittenhouse Square blaring it during the postseason to literally every bar and restaurant in the Tri-State area.
All that’s great. We’re just two-years, too late – unfortunately.
Scott while I know it’s much more difficult to plan than what I’m making it out to be, should have came through Philly in 2022 or at the very least, last season.
On February 17, 2023 as the Philadelphia Phillies reported to Clearwater, Florida for the start of Spring Training, a decision was made to ditch the 2022 postseason anthem – Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” from Garrett Stubbs’ now infamous Spotify playlist.
At the time, Stubbs and a few other Phillies players told the media they were going to ditch “Dancing on My Own” because they “didn’t want to listen to second place songs”.
By June 2023, Calum Scott was back in the clubhouse
At the time, Castellanos stated the Phillies started playing the song during the Washington Nationals series that started on June 2, 2023 and once the song started playing, numbers proved it was the perfect “reset” and what I considered the unofficial start of the MLB season on June 1st.
The Phillies went on to post a 7-3 record to begin June and finished the month 18-8. Castellanos hit .351 with 34 hits, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 12 runs scored during the month while his teammate Kyle Schwarber hit 8 home runs to go along with 16 RBI.
Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” proved yet again, it was the perfect recipe for this Phillies team in 2023, at least until NLCS Game 6 and Game 7.
Ironically, the Phillies finished second in the National League rather than second in Major League Baseball.
No need to revisit that disaster any further, right?
That brings us to 2024 Spring Training. The entire Phillies team has yet to report but Garrett Stubbs is already working diligently on replacing “Dancing On My Own” after 2023 didn’t yield the same World Series result as 2022.
Stubbs was asked about his Spotify Playlist and any future plans to replace it.
Garrett Stubbs on Phillies’ 2024 Anthem, Decision on ‘Dancing On My Own’
I mean, we’ve thought about it plenty, right? We tried to get rid of it this last year. And I don’t even wanna use the words “get rid of,” but we tried to move on from it and find something new and fresh. And we ended up reverting back to it. I think the fans have certain feelings about bringing it back in 2024, which I totally understand — when you don’t win the World Series, a lot of fans feel like it’s not a success.
And us players feel the same way, too. But there has been a lot of success — not just with the song, but with the team for the past few years — so we do have a lot of really good memories, and I hope that eventually we just do find a new song that gives us a good vibe and a new good energy that people can connect with.
Side Note on Garrett Stubbs: There has been too many reports over the past few weeks about not wanting to move you or Johan Rojas because of the importance of your “vibes” in the clubhouse. This is your job. Figure it out. Quick.
This year, the Phillies have been listening to all types of stuff in the clubhouse, but one song specifically has stuck out. That would be our guys the Armentani Bros and their remix of “Die For You”

No DOMO. No Panic Button
Even with the Phillies’ in a miserable slump right now, they remain one of the best teams in all of Major League Baseball. The Phillies are a half-game behind the Cleveland Guardians (65-42) for the best record in the MLB.
In the National League, the Phillies still lead the Los Angeles Dodgers by 2.5. games for the best record in the league. In the NL East, they hold a 6.5 game lead over the Atlanta Braves.
Point being, this is a grueling 162-game baseball season. It always has been and teams tend to have a month where they play like shit and slump their way through the Dog Days of Summer.
Not to mention, we all know how easy the Phillies schedule was back in May, right? I literally wrote an article saying that I didn’t expect them to lose a single game.
I think they ended up losing one or two..?
Everyone should just take their fingers off the panic button and lock-in.
We have a nasty road trip out West starting tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners before heading down the coast to face the Dodgers and D-Backs before retuning home to play the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park.
With or without Calum Scott – the top of the lineup needs to get back on track or Philly will be dancing on their own directly into Philadelphia Eagles football come early October.
