Pump the Brakes: Victor Wembanyama delivers a warning to the NBA after France lost to Team USA in Gold Medal game at the Olympics

Victor Wembanyama delivered one heck of a performance in yesterday’s Gold Medal game at the Olympics against Team USA.

Wemby scored a team-high 26 points to go along with 7 rebounds for France but at the end of the day, it wasn’t enough. Team USA will bring home gold after winning 98-87, while host country France will settle for a silver medal.

Following the loss, Victor Wembanyama delivered a “warning” for the rest of the NBA.

Victor Wembanyama warning to the NBA:

“I’m learning, and I’m worried for the opponents in a couple of years”

Right…

Listen, I am a fan of Victor Wembanyama. He’s an absolute freak and is changing the way big men play basketball not only in the NBA but on the world stage.

Wemby averaged 15.8 points and 9.7 rebounds while playing 29.8 minutes per game in the Olympics for Team France. He averaged 1.7 blocks per game.

Back in the states, the No. 1 overall pick wrapped up a rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs in which he averaged a double-double with 21.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Victor Wembanyama also led the NBA by a wide margin with 3.6 blocks per game and took home Rookie of the Year honors.

No doubt, all that is great but at the same time, I think he needs to pump the brakes on what he’s saying to the media. There’s no need to get ahead of yourself like this. Plenty of basketball to be played and Wemby isn’t even considered to be the best “big man” in the league, right?

First, you have Team France who lost to Team USA in the Gold Medal game in the 2024 Olympics. On top of that, during the NBA regular season, the best center in the entire NBA scored 70 points on Wemby and the San Antonio Spurs – who finished last year 22-60.

Joel Embiid put up 70 points when the 76ers hosted the San Antonio Spurs back in January. The 133-123 win marked the sixth straight for the Sixers. Embiid’s performance was highlighted by a 24-point first quarter and a career-high 34 points at halftime.

At the end of the third quarter, Embiid amassed 59 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists on 21-of-35 shooting from the floor and 16-of-17 shooting from the foul line.

Joel Embiid ended the game with 70 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. He shot 24-of-41 from the floor and 21-of-23 from the free throw line.

It also marked the 21st consecutive game that Embiid scored 30+ points in a game which as we all know here in Philly, that 30-point mark was reached in just three quarters of play for the majority of games in that span.
