Eagles Rant: Can James Bradberry’s transition to safety salvage his career?
It’s no secret that Eagles defensive back James Bradberry is likely cooked and has seen his best playing days in the past.
To sum the situation up, he was so poor in coverage last year that Drew Locke targeted him on every single play in a game-winning drive against the Eagles lasts season. Unfortunately due to his contract, the team wasn’t able to trade him or even cut him for that matter.
The best possible solution the team has had was moving him to safety, a position he’s never played in the NFL.

At 31, Bradberry is making a significant transition from his long-time role as a cornerback, a position he’s held throughout his first eight seasons in the NFL, to playing safety. While he could potentially serve as a backup at corner, his focus right now is fully on adapting to his new role as a safety.
“I understand what happened last year and where I’m positioned at right now,” Bradberry said. “And that’s part of the position I’m in right now.”
With all that said, Bradberry has been very average so far in his first few preseason games according to his PFF grade, in fact his grade against the Ravens was a 69.3.
So, it’s to be determined whether or not Bradberry will stay on this team, but due to the team’s total lack of depth at the safety position, perhaps that will keep him around, and who knows, maybe his veteran experience will slowly translate to playing the new position.
