WATCH: Joel Embiid caught Bryce Harper’s walk off hit in extra innings against the Houston Astros on camera
With Joel Embiid in attendance and filming the action on his cell phone, Bryce Harper stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 10th inning last night at Citizens Bank Park. Kyle Schwarber was on second and the Phillies were knotted up 2-2 against the Houston Astros.
Harper delivered a walk-off single with Joel Embiid standing in a crowd of Phillies fans.
Harper’s heroics marked his 15th career walk-off hit, his sixth since joining the Phillies and first since August 14, 2020 against the New York Mets.
It honestly couldn’t have come at a better time. Harper hasn’t been playing well and when the Phillies are struggling at a team, every fan in the area looks to their MVP to right the ship and restore order to the realm.
Before the All-Star break, Harper hit .301 with an impressive .982 OPS, along with 21 home runs and 61 RBI. Post All-Star break has been a different story for pretty much everyone in the Phillies’ lineup.
Harper specifically is hitting just .233 with a .683 OPS to go along with five homers and 15 RBI. From July 27th to August 3rd, Harper hit a significant 0-for-24 slump.
He hasn’t hit a home run since August 9th – 55 at-bats ago.
Last night was different.
Harper ripped a leadoff double in the sixth and advanced to third base on a fielders choice. He then scored the game-tying run on a Nick Castellanos’ broken bat single to centerfield

Joel Embiid at CBP is good for everyone.
Joel Embiid soaking in the vibes of Philadelphia right across the street from the Wells Fargo Center in late-August after he just won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the Paris Olympics is exactly what he should be doing. I love how the big fella stuck it out into extra innings too. That’s a true baseball fan if I’ve ever seen one.
I was a big supporter of Embiid playing in the Olympics while the majority of basketball fans questioned the decision due to past injury concerns.
Honestly, I didn’t give a shit if Embiid played a minute of action with Team USA, but just being a part of the team and spending time with players like Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant is basically invaluable.
We’re talking about winners, folks – something that Joel Embiid hasn’t really been able to take-in since the 76ers drafted him during the hellish depths of “The Process”.
Injuries aside, which yes, have absolutely derailed the appreciation for Joel Embiid not only in Philadelphia, but on a national level as well, I have always been more concerned with him mentally.
Now Embiid has a Gold Medal and spent months with future hall of fame basketball players. He’s in Philadelphia, out in the stands at a Phillies game, watching Bryce Harper the undisputed KING of pandering and understanding the city and our fans, walk it off against the Houston Astros.

You literally cannot comprehend that level of knowledge, experience, and feeling for a guy like Embiid and how it should impact him mentally as he prepares for yet another season of NBA basketball with the Philadelphia 76ers.
And hey, if none of that actually works out, Embiid can always look for a spot behind a camera. Elite work as usual from the best basketball player on planet Earth.
Phillies Update:
The Phillies kept things rolling last night (obviously) with a 3-2 win in extras against the Houston Astros thanks to Bryce Harper’s heroics. The win kept their lead in the National League East at six games over the Atlanta Braves.
Tonight, the Fightins will send Aaron Nola (11-6, 3.45 ERA) to the mound against Astros’ Justin Verlander (3-3, 3.92 ERA).
