I left Sixers Game 4 desperately pointing at Lincoln Financial Field after a night full of embarrassments
I need to tell you all about the worst and most humiliating Sunday of my entire life. In shocking news to absolutely no one, it came at the hands of the Sixers.
I bought tickets to Game 4 at Xfinity Mobile Arena because I genuinely felt good about this team. Even without Embiid, we were right there in Game 3. Close enough that I said you know what, I need to be in that building. I locked in lower bowl seats for a great price. Closest I’ve ever sat for a Sixers playoff game. Me and my boys were ready.
The Jersey Dilemma Nobody Asked For
First crisis of the day. What Sixers jersey do I wear?
I’ve got my Embiid jersey and a throwback Allen Iverson. I’m standing there genuinely overthinking this like a lunatic. Why would I wear Embiid if he’s not even playing? But I’m a diehard. I live and die by the Process, no exceptions. So I rock the Embiid jersey and we roll out.
Sixers fan in shambles after Game 4 loss vs. Celtics
We’re pre-gaming at Stateside Live, vibes are through the roof. Then the notification hits. Embiid upgraded from doubtful to questionable. The whole place erupts. We’re looking at each other like there’s no way they upgrade him for nothing. He’s playing. He has to be playing.
We’re walking through security to get into the game and my phone buzzes again. Embiid is ACTIVE. We lost our minds. Full pandemonium. I’m thinking this is about to be one of the best nights of my life. Embiid back, lower bowl seats, my boys next to me. What could go wrong?
The Strategic Play That Backfired Completely
We get to our section and there are these two super attractive girls taking pictures near our seats. So naturally I step in and offer to take the photo. Strategic play. Textbook. Next thing you know they’re returning the favor and taking pictures of us and I shoot my shot and ask for the number.
She doesn’t give out the number but she gives me the Instagram. Follows back. It’s literally why I’m writing this article right now.
Everything was going perfectly.
I’m thinking alright, we might be in business. Nonetheless, time to lock into the game. Tip-off is just minutes away.
Nope: All downhill from here…
Game starts somewhat close and then it turns into an absolute onslaught. Sixers are down almost 30. Celtics fans, who were absolutely everywhere in our own building and I still cannot explain how or why, are chirping in my ear the entire time.
I’m sitting there getting embarrassed by the Boston Celtics. In front of the baddies as they say. So I do what any rational person does in that situation. I pull out my phone and go check her Instagram. Nine thousand followers. Slight red flag but manageable. Then I start scrolling through her likes.
Pro athletes. Everywhere.
Buddy Hield, former Sixers legend by the way, liking multiple posts. Shareef O’Neal in there too. At that point I put my phone down and stared at the court for a long time.
I’m just another follower. I never had a chance. The Celtics were not the only ones who humbled me Sunday night.
Final score 128-96. Celtics lead the series 3-1. Payton Pritchard dropped 32 off the bench. We lost by 32 in our own building with our own fans getting drowned out by Boston.
Even with Embiid, Sixers down 3-1 and staring at yet another disappointing end
POV: Sixers fan goes rogue

Lose the Game, Lose the Girl.
I walked out of Xfinity Mobile wearing an Embiid jersey with nothing left but a job to do. I have to go home and write about this game. That’s the reality.
I looked across the parking lot at Lincoln Financial Field on the way out and felt something again. Football is coming. Jalen Hurts is on a mission. Mike Vrabel is a punk. You can have AJ Brown, we’ll still kick your football team’s ass, Boston fans.
Technically Boston doesn’t even have an NFL team but of course Celtics fans, being the front-runners that they are, are all New England Patriots fans. So the message still stands.
The Sixers ripped my heart out on Sunday. The girl at the game had pro athletes in her likes. The Celtics fans in our own building were louder than we were. It was a complete and total disaster from start to finish.
I looked at that stadium across the lot and I remembered why we do this. Philadelphia sports will break you down and build you back up. That’s the deal. You don’t get one without the other.
Football is coming. The Flyers are about to close out Pittsburgh. The Phillies have Zack Wheeler back. We’ll survive this. We always do.
