WATCH: Benches clear in Phillies-Rays, Bryce Harper almost knocks out pitcher after Nick Castellanos HBP in 8th inning
Things got heated in the 8th inning during the Phillies’ dismantling of the Rays when Tampa Bay pitcher Edwin Uceta blatantly beaned Nick Castellanos. The move clearly came out of frustration, and the benches cleared as a result of this colossally stupid play.

Harper was steaming mad over the bush league play and had some choice words for Uceta as he approached him. The fact that he didn’t even turn his head to acknowledge the oncoming threat was either ballsy or just plain stupid.

Every Phils fan was just as pissed as Harper in that moment. It was a pointless act of frustration by a nobody on a sub .500 ball club that came against the best team in baseball trying to go on yet another playoff run.
Uceta should count himself lucky that Harper showed restraint. He had a clear shot at him, but, of course, as the leader of the best team in baseball, Bryce knows better than anybody that the Phillies have bigger fish to fry.
Since the Fightins actually have games to win to hold pole position, Rays batters should also consider themselves fortunate. If the Phils were as bad as Tampa going into tomorrow night, it’d be open season on anyone standing in that batter’s box in a Rays uniform.
That’s not to say someone won’t get plunked tomorrow. In fact, I’d welcome that with open arms. But time will tell.
