WATCH: Garrett Stubbs singing ‘Dancing On My Own’ at McGillin’s
Brace yourselves. With just 16 games remaining in the 2024 MLB regular season, the official return of the Chief Vibes Officer Garrett Stubbs and a little thing that here in Philly we like to call “Red October” is about to paint the city red.
In a recent post on social media, there was a video of Garrett Stubbs hopping up on stage at McGillin’s to join in a karaoke version of Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing on my Own’ song that has lead the charge for the Philadelphia Phillies over the past two postseasons.

I mean at this point, I don’t see any other options on the table than to bring Dancing On My Own back for the postseason again this season. Maybe Garrett Stubbs singing DOMO at McGillin’s in an indicator of the song returning to the Phillies’ clubhouse?
While the song was already popular, the Phillies and fans alike helped catapult Scott’s remix to 1 billion streams on Spotify. The song was EVERYWHERE.
On February 17, 2023 as the Philadelphia Phillies reported to Clearwater, Florida for the start of Spring Training, a decision was made to ditch the 2022 postseason anthem – Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” from Garrett Stubbs’ now infamous Spotify playlist.
At the time, Stubbs and a few other Phillies players told the media they were going to ditch “Dancing on My Own” because they “didn’t want to listen to second place songs”.
By June 2023, Calum Scott and Dancing On My Own was back in the clubhouse
At the time, Castellanos stated the Phillies started playing the song during the Washington Nationals series that started on June 2, 2023 and once the song started playing, numbers proved it was the perfect “reset” and what I considered the unofficial start of the MLB season on June 1st.
The Phillies went on to post a 7-3 record to begin June and finished the month 18-8. Castellanos hit .351 with 34 hits, 5 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 12 runs scored during the month while his teammate Kyle Schwarber hit 8 home runs to go along with 16 RBI.
“Dancing On My Own” proved yet again, it was the perfect recipe for this Phillies team in 2023, at least until NLCS Game 6 and Game 7.
Unironically, the Phillies finished second in the National League rather than second in Major League Baseball.
No need to revisit that disaster any further, right?
That brings us to 2024 Spring Training. The entire Phillies team had yet to report but it was clear that Garrett Stubbs was already working diligently on replacing “Dancing On My Own” after 2023 didn’t yield the same World Series result as 2022.
Stubbs was asked about his Spotify Playlist and any future plans to replace it. He had ideas but nothing really made headlines. Now he’s singing DOMO at bars in Philly and we’re 16 games away from Red October painting the city of Philadelphia red.
Looks like the writing is on the wall. I honestly don’t care as long as we’re winning baseball games. Ring it, baby.
