Dallas Goedert talks Eagles fans calling for Nick Sirianni’s head, leadership, & more on The Pat McAfee Show following their shocking 15-12 win over the Saints
Today, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert gave Eagles fans plenty to talk about during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. With the team now being several days removed from their gutsy win over the New Orleans Saints in the SuperDome, much has been made this Tuesday following several players and coaches media appearances.
The talk of the town so to speak, has been Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. After having his play-calling duties stripped, it has left many wondering what his actual impact on the team is. Speaking of impact, Goedert who reeled in ten catches for 170 yards, and none bigger than his 60+ yard reception on 3rd and 16, obviously had the opportunity to address the Nick Sirianni situation specifically.
Here’s what The Eagles tight end had to say
Dallas Goedert on some #Eagles fans calling to fire Nick Sirianni: “We love Nick. He’s the same person every day. I think it’s just part of being coach in Philadelphia, they’ll come for your head even if you’re winning if something ain’t right.. We have all the faith in the world… pic.twitter.com/UFDRXcn9K2

So, it may still be somewhat unclear exactly what Sirianni’s role is, I think we all need to just take a step back and have some common sense. He’s a “CEO” head coach, he doesn’t call plays, he doesn’t run the defense, he’s in charge of managing all the players and the staff. However, he does have say on very situational stuff, including when the team has decided to go for it on these 4th down situations this year.
I’m not defending him for overruling or stepping in the way of Kellen Moore’s offense, because quite frankly, Nick’s decision making on these crucial plays has hurt the team. However, like many things this year, Siranni’s new role should have some expected growing pains. Where the problem lies is if Sirianni isn’t able to self-assess properly enough and be more consistent with his decision making.
Goedert’s reflection here on the Eagles head coach is a message that was very similliar to the one Jordan Mailata had on 94.1 WIP. It seems the players have faith in one another, including Nick Sirianni’s aggressiveness.
“We just need to execute better as players. It feels good to have that kind of trust from your coach.”
He’s exactly right. Sure, you can have issues with some of the play-calling in those situations, but let’s not act like the players haven’t come up short in those moments either. Saquon Barkley dropped a routine catch that would have sealed the game against Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night. Grant Calcaterra completely missed a block on a 4th down play in this most recent game. Coaching is 100% a crucial aspect of the game, but if you’re players are making fundamental mistakes, it doesn’t matter. That will ultimately cost your team the most.
While Sirianni will continuously be held under a microscope, I thought it was very interesting the perspective Goedert shared on how veterans like Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox have set the tone for the younger guys. Which honestly showed itself in this most recent win on the road. The Eagles had no business winning that game, yet despite all the adversity, the team rallied together and stole one on the road.
Speaking of rallying together, there is no better fanbase than Philadelphia Eagles fans. And there’s no better group to book your Eagles away trips with than Phans of Philly. After the 15-12 win in New Orleans, TheLibertyLine crew has now moved to 5-0 on trips with Phans of Philly.
WATCH: Eagles fans go nuts after gutsy win
The Eagles are now sitting at a (2-1) record after three weeks, and it’s been far from pretty. However, it’s a very tight-knit team with talent all over the field. Which is why I believe it’s safe to say this team is no-where near their ceiling. Which should honestly scare the rest of the NFL.
