WATCH: Eagles fans call out Darius Slay, including an expletive, following his embarassing behavior on Twitter after 33-16 loss to Buccaneers

After getting embarrassed in Tampa Bay this past Sunday at the hands of Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers, the last thing any Eagles player should be doing is running their mouths on social media.

In shocking fashion to absolutely no one, Darius Slay thought it would be a good idea to tweet out all his career accolades in a later tweeted post. This is just an awful look on several levels and certainly not something you’d want a captain of your team to be doing.

Darius Slay’s tweet following the Eagles loss

After the team’s disappointing performance and the apparent backlash he received, Slay deleted that initial tweet. The Eagle’s Corner said, “Let me chill today! Lol, I’m better than that.” While he apologized to the fans, it’s not what you’d expect from a veteran leader coming off a challenging game, especially when his struggles were apparent.

Slay recorded nine tackles in the loss but allowed four receptions and a touchdown. It could’ve been worse; he nearly gave up a second one, but the receiver dropped the ball. To top it off, Slay celebrated the incomplete pass as if he made a great play on the ball despite having zero impact.

As someone who has grown sour on Slay as a fan over the last year, I am unsurprised. I am entirely fed up with him, so much so that I took the opportunity on the latest episode of our Philadelphia Eagles podcast, “The Philly Pod,” to call him out with my fellow cohosts and, more importantly, my brothers and soldiers at war.

I may or may not have overreacted, but can you really blame me after an Eagles loss as embarrassing as this one? This whole thing is so frustrating. For those who don’t have the time or convenience to watch the video clip above, I’ve quoted myself in full text below.

“I warned you about this last year. I brought this up the first time he did it last year, and you were sweating bullets on this podcast because you’re like, I don’t know where he’s going with this. You’re like, is this guy going to get me canceled on Twitter? Because Slay is always on Twitter. I don’t care if Slay sees this. You know what? Darius Slay’s a bitch. Simple.

“Maybe at one point in his career, he wasn’t, but now he is, and it’s, he’s a captain. It’s a bad look, and I get it. He has the resume and everything like that. Like, Quinyon’s not going to do that. He’s trying to prove himself in this league. But maybe it’s a sign. Perhaps it’s a sign that, I mean, look, we got to play this thing out this year. But moving forward, I wouldn’t mind if Slay is not on this team.

I would rather just draft another young corner, a young, hungry guy that’s not going to be on Twitter, not going to be a distraction to the team, not going to give off this, like soft energy, this, like victim defensive energy that he gives off because that’s what he does. He’s a captain, and I don’t; I can’t recall any other captains on this team doing it.”

At the end of the day, Mr. Slay, A.K.A., Big Play Slay, is still a very talnted player at this age and in order for this Eagles team to reach the heights we all want them to, Darius is going to have to be apart of that. Regardless of what I said today, I still believe in him deep down and would love nothing more for him to get back to what he actually does best. Which is shutting down the other team’s best receievers.
