Revenge Game: New York Mets told Zack Wheeler to buy his own tickets to attend 2015 playoff run
Everyone knows the New York Mets are a disgusting, classless organization, and there’s no better example than the club’s treatment of Zack Wheeler during their 2015 postseason run.
Zack Wheeler asked to attend the Mets NLDS clash against the Dodgers while recovering from Tommy John, but team brass told him to buy his own tickets:
Mike Puma’s book “If These Walls Could Talk: New York Mets” is out today. I got an advance copy (great read!) and thought this passage was pretty ridiculous.

The #Mets wouldn’t let Wheeler join his teammates for the postseason in 2015. @Metsmerized pic.twitter.com/BQTZQiqGct
I mean, how embarrassing is that? Wheeler said he’d remember that disrespect when free agency came around, and what better way to flip the bird at your old team than signing with a division rival?
Granted, I’m sure the nice chunk of change we threw at him didn’t hurt. Even so, he’s blossomed into the Phillies’ bona fide ace and should honestly win the Cy Young this season.
Now, Zack Wheeler will finally be in attendance for a Mets playoff game. Even better, he won’t be in the stands but will be donning red pinstripes in front of a sold-out Citizens Bank Park crowd.
Talk about poetic justice. To make things even sweeter, he’ll be squaring off against the injury-riddled Kodai Senga. So Wheels will definitely have the edge in the pitching matchup to show his old team exactly who they’re missing.
