WATCH: Mets’ corny Grimace gimmick is officially dead as FOX broadcast catches mascot losing all hope during Sunday’s loss to the Phillies
If you haven’t been keeping tabs on the Mets and their parade of corny gimmicks, trust me, I get it. But here we are, talking about Grimace—the purple McDonald’s mascot—as the supposed savior of a franchise that was completely lost before the purple blob came to the mound in mid-June, ultimately changing the trajectory of the Mets’ season.
It all kicked off in mid-June when Grimace threw out the first pitch at Citi Field. The Mets crushed the Marlins 10-4 that day, and suddenly, fans thought they found their good-luck charm.
What followed was a seven-game win streak, and for a brief moment, everything seemed to click for New York.
Mets fans, desperate for something to cling to, latched onto Grimace like he was their franchise’s guardian angel. Superstition? Sure. Desperation? Probably. But for a while, the Grimace magic seemed to work, and it gave the fanbase something to rally around during an otherwise forgettable season.
Still, the New York Mets, boasting a massive payroll while continuously producing “mid” results, barely squeaked into the playoffs. They split a doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves to secure a spot in the postseason and nearly blew their Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers before riding a wave a momentum into the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Then Saturday happened.
The Mets somehow managed to overcome a Zack Wheeler masterclass to steal Game 1 on the road giving their entire rat-infested fanbase a false sense of hope yet again.
All that is true. There’s no denying it, however things changed on Sunday in Game 2.
The Phillies played 1.5 games of the NLDS with zero offense before finding themselves after falling behind 3-0 in the seventh inning on Sunday and honestly, their starting pitcher, Luis Servino, looked like the second-coming of Cy Young himself.
Just as the figurative dark clouds started to roll in from the Delaware River, Trea Turner finally sparked some hope with a two-out single. Then, Bryce Harper, Major League Baseball’s “Greatest Showman” stepped up to the plate and sent a 99 mph fastball 431 feet into straight-away center.
That was exactly what the Phillies needed and two pitches later, Castellanos sent a slider into the left-field stands to tie the game. What was a 3-0 Mets lead turned into chaos for New York in a matter of seconds.
The Mets yet again, didn’t just roll over. Brandon Nimmo hit a solo homer in the eighth to give the Mets a 4-3 lead, and manager Carlos Mendoza made a bold move, calling on closer Edwin Diaz for a seven-out save.
That didn’t go as planned. After getting a couple of outs, Diaz walked Harper and gave up a single to Castellanos. Enter Bryson Stott, who ripped a two-run triple into the right-field corner, giving the Phillies a 6-4 lead.
The Mets, who’ve been comeback kings all season, responded with a two-run homer from Mark Vientos in the ninth to tie it at 6-6. But in the bottom half, Mets reliever Tylor Megill walked both Turner and Harper with two outs, setting the stage for Castellanos to deliver the final blow—a walk-off single to complete the wild comeback.
And just like that, the Phillies have their swagger back and will head to New York with some serious momentum on their side.
If Game 2 was any indication, the remainder of this series is going to be a back-and-forth fist fight but what was left of the “Miracle Mets” has been completely killed. Nothing captured the moment better than during Bryson Stott’s triple that cleared the bases.
Some loser Mets fan dressed up like Grimace in the stands was left ruined, knowing that everything he hoped the Mets would be this postseason has officially come to an abrupt end.
Grimace cut is ‘Pure Cinema‘
The New York Mets are dead men walking.
Good. Nothing I enjoy more than Mets fans suffering.

- WATCH: Xfinity Live! goes CRAZY for the Nick Castellanos walk off, Mets fan suffers alone in a sea of Phillies fans
Just like the sad Mets fan realized at Xfinity Live! as a sea of red erupted for Nick Castellanos’ walk off hit in Game 2, the Phillies have their swagger back.
The Mets would be better off coming to terms that any hope or joy they had is now gone. There’s no need to complain or make up stories about Philadelphia and the fanbase here
You had your shot. You took it. And now it’s gone.
The Mets know they got beyond lucky in Game 1 as the Phillies choked away a Zack Wheeler Masterclass. This series should easily be 2-0 with Aaron Nola on the mound in Queens tomorrow night to send the Mets to Cancun.
That didn’t happen. Fine. Whatever.
What did happen, was the Mets allowing the return of “The Fightins” and it’s really bad news for opposing pitching staffs (or lack thereof) who have to deal with the awakening of Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Nick Castellanos.
If Game 2 was any indication, the remainder of this series is going to be a back-and-forth fist fight but man, do I feel great with Nola on the mound tomorrow in Queens.
