NFL Rumors: Eagles listed as potential landing spot for All-Pro pass-rusher at trade deadline
The Eagles’ pass rush has been underwhelming to start the season, compiling just six sacks through four games — currently ranked second-to-last in the NFL.
Prized offseason signing Bryce Huff has been benched in favor of 36-year-old Brandon Graham, while Josh Sweat and Nolan Smith have created little to no pressure off the edge.
Given the Eagles’ lofty aspirations in 2024, GM Howie Roseman will likely search for help at the trade deadline, as he has historically done.
CBS Sports recently released a piece detailing one deal each team should make at the deadline, and have the Eagles acquiring future Hall of Famer Von Miller from Buffalo.
The Eagles probably shouldn’t be in the business of adding aging defenders. But they badly need a pass rush, and Miller, though suspended until Week 8, was a Pro Bowler under Vic Fangio in Denver.
As noted above, Philadelphia’s track record of adding older defenders at the deadline isn’t great. They traded for DE Robert Quinn in 2022, who recorded just two QB hits in six games. Veteran safety Kevin Byard struggled with the rest of Philly’s defense last year after coming over from Tennessee midway through the season.
The Eagles desperately need a player who can rush the quarterback, but placing 35-year-old Von Miller across from another player in his mid-thirties would be counterproductive.
Additionally, Miller is serving a four-game suspension stemming from allegations that he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend in November 2023. He will be eligible for reinstatement after Week 8.
Miller also carries a cap number of $14.8M this season, with astronomical numbers in the following years.
Seems like an unnecessary headache for a player who’s well beyond his prime.
If the Eagles elect to trade for another pass-rusher, they’ll likely find a younger (and cheaper) option with fewer questions surrounding them.

He's now tied Derrick Thomas (126.5) for the #17 spot on the NFL's all-time sack list.
