Reddit user provides an explanation to Nick Sirianni’s heated exchange with fans at The Linc

Nick Sirianni has made headlines for a heated exchange with a fan during the Eagles’ 20-16 win over the Browns, sparking plenty of reactions.

If you somehow missed it, a video has been circulating where Nick Sirianni is seen arguing from the sidelines. Not exactly the image you want for your head coach, especially when it’s with a fan of a team that plays in the city of Philadelphia.

Nick Sirianni arguing with Eagles fans at The Linc:

The Fan’s Side of the Story

In a twist, a fan claiming to be the one involved in the interaction has spoken out on Reddit, defending Sirianni. According to the fan, they initiated the exchange by pleading with Nick Sirianni to run the ball more (classic), specifically asking about using Saquon Barkley.

The fan said Sirianni responded by saying they would run, which the fan took as a promise to pound the ground game. The post suggests Sirianni wasn’t being hostile but more playful in the back-and-forth.

For context, the Eagles did run the ball, albeit not to the extent that this particular fan was hoping for. They racked up 116 yards on 36 carries across four ball carriers. It wasn’t an overwhelming ground-and-pound performance, but the Eagles did run more than they passed in the win.

Nick Sirianni’s Response

The fan insists Sirianni’s response was more lighthearted than it appeared on camera, saying the coach yelled something along the lines of “I told you we would run.”

Granted, the fan admitted they’d had a few beverages during the game, so maybe their memory was a bit fuzzy. But the post stands firm that Sirianni wasn’t being aggressive, just making a point that he followed through with running the ball.

The Eagles fan said Sirianni was responding in good fun, rather than starting an aggressive or arrogant altercation with the fan.

They claimed that Sirianni was yelling “I told you we would run,” though he admitted that it was a paraphrase since our mystery fan had more than a few adult beverages during Sunday’s game- which I can’t blame him for given the boring-state of the Eagles offense.

Regardless, he ends his post claiming that Nick’s actions were not unwarranted and he did not see it as aggressive behavior from Nick, rather he saw it as Sirianni making a point to tell the fan he followed through with the running game.

My reaction…

Here’s the thing—if the Eagles’ running game on Sunday was Sirianni “following through” on a promise, it raises some eyebrows about the coaching decisions. The 116 yards on the ground weren’t exactly overwhelming, and Sirianni’s actions, no matter how playful the fan claims they were, have opened him up to a barrage of criticism from media outlets.

The Reddit post defending Sirianni? It feels a bit suspect, coming in after a full day of backlash against the coach. Was it damage control? Maybe. A possible Nick Sirianni burner or at the very least someone within the Eagles organization? I’d like to believe that Jeffery Lurie or Big Dom would take such drastic measures in defending their head coach but I obviously doubt it.

The fan does apologize for the timing of their post, but it does seem convenient that it showed up after a long day of Sirianni being criticized. At the same time, you’ve got to wonder—why would a fan go to Reddit to defend a coach in this situation? The whole thing feels strange.

While there could be total truth to the post, but the timing all just seems a little funny to me. The post does apologize for the late timing on the clarification on the altercation, but again, after media was trashing Sirianni all day, it just all seems a little odd.

Sirianni already issued an apology for his antics, and regardless of what really happened, everyone already has their opinions on the situation and the coach in general.

Personally, I don’t really care.

Eagles fans want to be known as honest and at times, overly-critical of their players and coaches. When a player and/or coach then gives you the feedback you were begging for, there’s no reason to be mad about it, right?

Nick Sirianni and the Eagles are back in action next Sunday at Met Life against the New York Giants. Just keep winning football games and this is a non-issue in the long run. The Eagles are easily one catch from Saquon Barkley away from being 4-1 and atop of the NFC East. I’ll save further judgement until we’re deeper into the NFL season.
