Ben Simmons, Kyle Kuzma share double embarrasing moment in a near highlight-reel play during NBA Preseason, that will now make “Shaqtin’ a Fool”
On Monday night, former Sixer and enemy of Philadelphia, Ben Simmons, was made victim of a highlight-worthy play. However, instead of Kyle Kuzma capitalizing on his ankle breaker, the Wizards forward shared just as an awkward moment.
Ben Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets faced off against Kuzma’s Washington Wizards in a preseason matchup at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Just three minutes into the game, with the Wizards holding a 9-8 lead, Kuzma found himself on the left wing with Simmons guarding him. A nasty hesitation move from Kuzma followed, and the former Defensive Player of the Year runner-up tumbled to the ground.
But, as every fan of hoops knows, an ankle-breaker is only complete if you nail the shot. Unfortunately for Kuzma, things didn’t go as planned. He didn’t just miss the shot; he missed the rim entirely, leaving what could have been a viral clip and SportsCenter Top 10 play into a “Shaqtin’ a Fool” moment.

Aside from this being both Ben Simmons and Kyle Kuzma involved, what made this that much better was the Wizards’ bench jumping to their feet, expecting Kuzma to complete the play. Instead, they all just awkwardly sat back down, probably basking in the second-hand embarrassment.
Kuzma has blossomed into a reliable 20-point scorer over the last two seasons, but obviously, he isn’t free from the occasional awkward moment on the court. Meanwhile, Ben Simmons continues to be the target of jokes and memes since his departure from Philadelphia.
Simmons has been dealing with several injuries that have derailed his playing time with the Brooklyn Nets. However, he did return this preseason, healthy and ready to roll. In 13 minutes last night, the former All-Star scored 11 points on 5-7 shooting, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out two assists.
For what it’s worth, I thought he looked healthy and played very aggressively to start the game, which has to be a breath of fresh air for Nets fans. Funny enough, Ben Simmons and the Nets take on his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers, on Wednesday, October 16th.
