Eagles News: Vic Fangio clears up rumors behind Nick Sirianni overriding or even calling defensive plays
Nick Sirianni has been the center of all Philadelphia Eagles related news and rumors this week, due to the combination of his antics on and off the field following their narrow win over the Cleveland Browns.
Of the many things Sirianni did and said over the last week, the one where he admitted to calling a defensive play late in the Browns game got cleared up today. That statement obviously stirred up plenty of debate, and raised even more questions about Sirianni’s role with the team. He’s been the biggest target and talking point of the team following their 3-2 start to the season.
Vic Fangio on Eagles HC Nick Sirianni
#Eagles DC Vic Fangio offered context on Nick Sirianni saying he called failed played on defense. Sirianni said “be alert for this” on a third and long — possible check down — not he called the play.

Sirianni didn’t give specifics about which defensive play he supposedly called, and Vic Fangio clarified why during a Tuesday press conference. According to Fangio, Sirianni didn’t actually call a play at all. Instead, he simply told the coaching staff to watch for a particular situation before a third-and-long. Fangio, dismissed the remark as “inconsequential,” downplaying it’s significance to the game.
So… What is actually happening within the Eagles organization? We may never know, but for now we’re all in for the ride, and it’s only right to just let this season play out before we come to any conclusions.
