Trust The Headset: Is Big Dom’s wardrobe addition on the sideline saving the Eagles’ season?
Philadelphia Eagles head of security, “Big Dom” DiSandro, skyrocketed to fame last season after being ejected for a heated sideline exchange with 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
That incident earned DiSandro a season-long sideline ban, and some fans still point to his absence as a turning point in Philly’s 1-5 finish last year, capped off by a brutal Wild Card loss to Tampa Bay. But now, he’s back on the sidelines – and apparently, with a promotion of sorts.
If you noticed while you were watching the Eagles’ 37-17 takedown of the Bengals, DiSandro was sporting a headset for the first time ever. It’s unusual, to say the least, since Big Dom doesn’t have anything to do with play calls or on-field coaching.
The Big Dom Difference
Philadelphia’s offense lit up the field with a season-high 37 points. Jalen Hurts had his best game yet, completing 16 of 20 passes for 236 yards and hammering home three rushing touchdowns.
The Eagles went from a sputtering 2-2 start to now winning two games in blowout fashion – a momentum shift that, for many, started right when Dom put on that headset.
“It’s Dom in a headset,” former Eagle Chris Long pointed out on his podcast, Green Light. “He’s had the headset on the last couple weeks. And I gotta tell you, they look better … I’m starting to wonder if Dom is the glue guy.”
Is Big Dom wearing a headset the difference maker?
Does any of this actually make sense? Probably not. DiSandro isn’t making calls or drawing up plays. But in sports, a lot of “nonsense” takes on a life of its own, and sometimes those oddball factors seem to work.
Maybe it’s the headset, maybe it’s just timing, or maybe DiSandro brings a little extra swagger to the sideline that the Eagles needed. Personally, I think it’s just the fact that Jalen Hurts hasn’t turned the football over and Cooper DeJean provided the defensive a much-needed spark over Avonte Maddox but what the hell do I know?
Just when I thought Big Dom jumped the shark, he pulls me right back in and much like the majority of Eagles fans, I don’t think we ever need a logical reason to credit something that could be working, and right now Big Dom’s headset magic is as good a theory as any.
