Jalen Hurts Golfing

Jalen Hurts says he was benched from golfing with Obama due to clause in his contract but is that really what happened?

Jalen Hurts had the chance to hit the golf course with former President Barack Obama, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, and Saquon Barkley earlier this week. Yet, while Lurie and Barkley swung away, Hurts was forced to stay in the cart due to a no-golf clause in his contract.

Jalen Hurts Didn’t Actually Golf Due to Contract Clause

“To see him out there enjoying himself and talking a little trash, that was cool,” Hurts said. “I told him he didn’t want these problems just yet. I can’t golf right now. By contract, I can’t golf. His day will come.” [Jalen Hurts]

Here’s what I don’t understand.

Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles owner, and Saquon Barkley, the often injured running back, were out there playing golf without a hitch, yet Hurts, the franchise quarterback, was barred from joining? I mean I guess it’s understandable that the team wants to protect its $255 million investment, especially with $179 million guaranteed, but you’d think that Lurie would throw Jalen a bone here right?

Not to mention, there’s several videos as recent as last year featuring Hurts swinging a golf club which makes me question the official statement about his absense from playing.

Yes, I am very well aware that contracts typically restrict athletes from risky activities like skydiving or participating in other sports outside of their own but golf seems pretty tame in comparison, especially while the owner of the team is with you.

The situation is probably that simple to explain but for the hell of it, let’s throw out some alternate reasons as to why Jalen Hurts didn’t play golf but still showed up with Saquon and Lurie to meet Obama.

Jalen Hurts Isn’t Good At Golf

First, maybe Jalen Hurts golf swing was too embarrassing for him to actually play with a former President of the United States?

I understand he’s a football player in the NFL but imagine stepping up to the first tee box with Barack Obama watching along with the owner of the team you play for.

No doubt about it, that scenario is pretty intense, but checking out Hurts’ swing, I don’t think that’s the reason. He was crushing golf balls at Top Golf a few years back, so I doubt he was nervous about how his game would hold up.

Jalen Hurts PR Move: Laser Focused on the NFL Season

Here’s where we take a trip down the rabbit hole. The often-criticized Jalen Hurts has the opportunity to golf with Barack Obama, teammate Saquon Barkley, and owner Jeffery Lurie.

Hurts refuses to play because of his “contract” and then takes the podium to make sure that the media and Eagles’ fans know that he wasn’t screwing around ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Let’s just say Hurts comes out on Sunday after a dominant showing against the Cincinnati Bengals last week and lays an egg against the Jaguars. What are the calls on Monday, the day before the presidential election day, going to sound like on Philly Sports Talk Radio?

Everyone will target Hurts for golfing during the week, right?

Side Note: I don’t think Jalen Hurts is going to play bad on Sunday against the Jaguars regardless. It was a hypothetical. Relax.

I know it’s crazy and still a bit too much of a reach but that’s more logical than the “he’s bad at golf” theory above. Whatever the case, Hurts will have to wait for his “day on the course” with Obama, while Lurie and Saquon enjoyed theirs without restriction.
