NFL Rumors: Panthers edge-rusher emerges as potenital trade target for Eagles

The Eagles likely won’t make any substantial moves before this year’s trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean GM Howie Roseman won’t poke around the market.

Edge-rusher is the one position where Philly could use an added boost, and luckily, quite a few are rumored to be available.

The Browns and Giants are actively shopping Za’Darius Smith and Azeez Ojulari, respectively, but they will cost more than Roseman is willing to part with.

One name who could make sense for the Eagles is Panthers edge-rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

According to The Athletic’s NFL Insider Dianna Russini, Carolina is reportedly open to trading the former No. 1 overall pick after signing him to a two-year, $20M contract last offseason.

“NFL executives around the league believe if Carolina decides to trade [Bryce Young] they’ll get a better deal by waiting until the offseason anyways. As for the rest of the roster, teams believe Carolina is open to moving running back Miles Sanders and edge Jadeveon Clowney.”

Clowney, 31, has just one sack this season while playing for an uninspiring defense, but he complied 9.5 sacks and 19 QB hits just last year with the Ravens and can still rush the quarterback. With the Panthers currently sitting at 1-7, getting Clowney out of Carolina may not cost much.

Adding Clowney to an Eagles edge rotation that has found its stride in recent weeks could improve their championship chances. Of course, Eagles fans would have to forgive Clowney for bashing Carson Wentz in the head and ruining his career in a playoff game years ago.

NFL teams have until Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 4 P.M. ET to finalize all trades.
