Eagles Rumors: Bryce Huff named as potential trade candidate ahead of upcoming deadline
Eagles defensive end Bryce Huff may not finish his first season in Philadelphia.
During a Monday appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, NFL Insider Tom Pelissero mentioned Huff as a potential name to watch ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
“There’s certainly going to be interest in guys like Bryce Huff, who was one of the Eagles’ big free agent signings, played all of six snaps yesterday after apparently getting his hand banged up in warmups or something. That’s a name that I think is going to get some potential action.”
Huff played just six defensive snaps in Sunday’s 28-23 win over Jacksonville, most of which came on the final defensive series.
Head coach Nick Sirianni stated Huff was dealing with an injury following warmups.
“Bryce came off the field after warmups,” Sirianni said Sunday. “Again, I won’t talk too much about injury, but his hand was bothering him, and he was getting treatment in the locker room after warmups. So, we were trying to protect him there.”
Limiting Huff’s playing time due to a phantom injury right before the trade deadline? Interesting.
Huff has failed to live up to the three-year, $51 million deal he signed in free agency, but his improved play in recent weeks may be enough to entice teams. The former Jet has totaled eight tackles, three QB hits, 1.5 sacks, and one TFL through eight games.
If defensive coordinator Vic Fangio can’t find a role for Huff, it may be best to cut your losses and move on — even with the substantial cap hit.
