WATCH: Cal Equipment Manager tackles helmet thief after Stanford game—earns legendary tribute

Cal Equipment Manager Trevor Skogerboe went mega-viral after stopping a helmet thief following the team’s 24-21 victory in the 131st edition of The Big Game on Saturday.

Skogerboe, the Cal Equipment Manager, pulled off an epic tackle when stopping a helmet thief who stormed the football field. He went from handing out mouth guards and fixing chin straps to becoming an internet legend with one epic, bone-crunching tackle, which is something you rarely see from an equipment manager.

When chaos erupted and someone needed to step up, he sprang into action like a U.S. Marshal chasing down a fugitive. And let’s be honest—if you had a million equipment guys on a million sidelines, 999,999 of them would’ve frozen or assumed it wasn’t their problem.

However, when a fan on the field attempted to steal a players’ helmet, Skogerboe snuffed out the heist and and tackled it—literally.

Quick Note: If you’re storming the field in celebration and attempting to steal something from the players’ bench—helmets, equipment, or literally anything else—you’re a total dork. Storming the field is supposed to be about the memory of celebrating in a way that very few schools ever get to experience. Instead, one clown can turn a party into a problem and honestly, if it weren’t for Trevor’s quick thinking, this could’ve spiraled into something much worse.

Not to mention, from the jump, the entire heist was an embarrassment.

What a horrible attempt by the kid.

Rarely does someone fail so miserably and so publicly, but here we are. The kid clearly thought he was starring in his own little college movie, imagining the helmet as the ultimate frat house trophy, dreaming of telling the story over and over as his boys chugged beers out of it, snorted lines off the top it, or threw it on to bash their already-hollowed heads into the closest drywall.

None of that happened. The heist was so badly executed it didn’t even rise to “slightly above average” party story status and ended in absolute embarrassment.

This plan was doomed from the moment it entered his beer-soaked brain. There’s absolutely zero shot you can sprint away from that situation. It wasn’t a smash-and-grab at a local business (which we know California is all-too-familiar with); it was a sideline with cameras and staff ready to take notice.

Plus, he had the prized helmet in his hands and nobody had a clue. Instead of just walking away calmly, blending into the crowd, he took off like he was Forrest Gump, running into the spotlight.

And boy, did he get caught. Trevor Skogerboe, the hero Cal never knew it needed.

When he spotted this moron trying to make off with team property, it was like a light switch flipped. In an instant, Trevor channeled his inner linebacker, closed the gap, and made one of the cleanest tackles you’ll see all season.

Thankfully, his bold move didn’t just make waves on social media; it made a tsunami.

Cal turned this viral sensation into a full-blown celebration, complete with a pep rally-worthy tribute video. Imagine the energy in that locker room when they replayed the footage, hyping up their guy like he just scored a game-winning touchdown.

Cal Equipment Manager Trevor Skogerboe Becomes The Ultimate Hype Man

The unsung heroes—the equipment managers, trainers, and everyone behind the scenes—rarely get the credit they deserve. Trevor the Cal Equipment Manager changed the game. He showed that these roles are more than just jobs; they’re part of the heart and soul of every program.
