Kentucky Bettor Drops $3.1 Million on Eagles to Beat Panthers on Sunday in South Philly
A Kentucky bettor is putting their money—and a lot of it—where their mouth is, wagering a massive $3.1 million on the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday in South Philadelphia.
The bet, placed with Circa Sports, is one of the largest ever reported on an NFL regular-season game, turning what might have been a routine matchup into a high-stakes affair.
Kentucky Bettor Drops $3.1 Million on Eagles to Beat Panthers on Sunday in South Philly
According to ESPN, The wager was placed on the Eagles money line at -700 odds, meaning the bettor stands to net $442,800 if Philly wins outright. While that’s a hefty potential payout, laying down $3.1 million on such steep odds is a bold move, especially in a league as unpredictable as the NFL.
Circa Sports, now operating in five states, moved the Eagles’ money-line odds to -870 after the bet, lengthening Carolina’s odds to +650. Other sportsbooks have Philly around -675 on the money line, with the Eagles favored by 13 points on the spread.
Circa Sports owner Derek Stevens described it as the largest bet his sportsbook has ever taken:
“I told my guys in the risk room to go to work and get some buyback on the Panthers. We should have the liquidity to end up needing the Eagles.”
The Eagles are dominating betting markets across the board. ESPN BET reports that Philadelphia is the most-bet money line and second-most-bet team on the spread for Week 14. At DraftKings, the Eagles are also the top money-line pick by total bets and handle.
Despite the overwhelming public support for the Birds, there’s still some underdog action on the Panthers. BetMGM lists Carolina as its second-most-bet underdog to win outright (+575), indicating that some bettors are looking for a big upset payday.
This isn’t the first time massive bets have made headlines in the NFL. In Week 12, a $1 million wager on the Rams covering a three-point spread against the Eagles ended in disappointment as L.A. lost 37-20. And let’s not forget the infamous $1.4 million live bet on the Chargers’ money line during their playoff collapse against the Jaguars earlier this year.
The biggest NFL bets ever, though, are obviously reserved for the Super Bowl. Legendary bettor Billy Walters reportedly bet $6 million on the Saints in Super Bowl XLIV, and that creep Houston Astros fan, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, has routinely made multi-million-dollar wagers on championship games.
For the Eagles, Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers should, on paper, be a comfortable win. Philly has one of the league’s most complete rosters, while Carolina is in the midst of a rough season under rookie quarterback Bryce Young. But as any NFL fan knows, there’s no such thing as a sure thing.
And honestly, even as an avid Eagles fan, it would be kinda funny if they lost just to watch this guy cough up a smooth $3.1 million.
Serves him right trying to profit off our football team from way down in Kentucky. Stick to bourbon and horses, my guy.
Plus, the Packers couldn’t handle business against the Lions last night, so the No. 1 seed in the NFC is already looking slim. What’s one more L at this point?
Maybe I’m just one of those people who wants to watch the world burn.
Watching Philly fall to the Panthers in the same week this dude flushes millions down the drain? That’s chaos I could live with. Either way, it’s all eyes on Sunday now.
If the Eagles win, it’s business as usual, and one Kentucky bettor walks away with a massive payday. If they lose? Well, the memes will be glorious, and someone in Kentucky might want to rethink their life choices.
