Eagles NFC Playoff Scenarios

Eagles clinch playoff spot after win over the Panthers and key losses elsewhere

The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the playoffs.

Sunday’s 22-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers, paired with losses by the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals, officially secured the Birds their postseason berth.

The Eagles are headed to the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season

After last season’s epic collapse, this year’s squad has a much different vibe, and for good reason—they’ve been one of the hottest teams in football.

  3. Seattle Seahawks: 8-5

  8. Los Angeles Rams: 7-6
  9. Atlanta Falcons: 6-7
  10. Arizona Cardinals: 6-7

The Eagles are firmly in control of the No. 2 seed, trailing only the Lions, who have looked like juggernauts all year. But with Minnesota breathing down their necks and a challenging schedule ahead, there’s no time to coast.

What a difference a year makes. Last season, the Eagles started 10-1 before a disastrous 1-5 stretch derailed their season. That meltdown ended with a brutal 32-9 Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had head coach Nick Sirianni’s job hanging by a thread.

The franchise responded with a series of bold offseason moves, starting at the top:

  • Coaching Changes: Sirianni replaced both coordinators, bringing in Kellen Moore to rejuvenate the offense and Vic Fangio to overhaul the defense.
  • Free Agent Splash: Howie Roseman went to work, landing Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Zack Baun, and Mekhi Becton.
  • Draft Haul: Roseman hit again in the draft, snagging Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean to bolster a struggling secondary.

The results are evident. The Eagles look like a complete team, and the changes have paid off in almost every area. The addition of Saquon Barkley has transformed the Eagles’ offense. He’s been an MVP candidate, tearing through defenses behind an offensive line that’s returned to elite form with Becton stepping up.

Jalen Hurts has also taken a step forward, cutting down on the costly turnovers that plagued him last year. While the passing attack hasn’t been explosive, it’s been efficient enough to complement the league’s most punishing ground game.

The defense has gone from liability to strength, thanks to Vic Fangio’s leadership and Howie Roseman’s roster tweaks.

  • Zack Baun has been a revelation at linebacker, stabilizing a position that had been a weakness.
  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson has brought leadership and versatility.
  • Rookies Mitchell and DeJean are already making their mark, turning the secondary into a playmaking unit.

The defensive front is getting the job done, led by a young core of players like Nakobe Dean, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Nolan Smith Jr. Add it all up, and the Eagles are wearing opponents down week after week.

The Eagles’ 2024 season didn’t start perfectly—they stumbled to a 2-2 record out of the gate. But since then, they’ve hit their stride, looking more like a team built for a deep playoff run.

Unlike last year’s squad, this team has the balance and resilience to avoid another late-season collapse. With improved coaching, a strong defense, and a dominant running game, the Eagles are one of the NFL’s most dangerous teams heading into January.

Time will tell if this year ends in Super Bowl glory, but for now, it’s clear: the Birds are flying high heading into The Battle of Pennsylvania, against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.
