Icon: Matvei Michkov stops to sign autograph after ejection in third period
Like it or not, Matvei Michkov is a god damn rock star. The Mad Russian is currently leading the race for the Calder Trophy with 11 goals and 14 assists, and he’s doing it his way. It was on full display against Utah on Sunday when he earned his first career ejection and still stopped to give a fan his autograph in the tunnel.
Matvei Michkov got tossed in the final minute of the game after a scuffle behind the net but signed an autograph for a fan on his way back to the locker room:

Say what you want, Michkov is made to be a star in this league.
People like to yearn for the old days of Flyers hockey when the Broad Street Bullies were so physical they scared the Soviets off the ice. While this isn’t to that level, this is the kind of fire Philly feeds off of.
Sure, we don’t want to see him get tossed every game, but it’s that kind of mentality mixed with sublime skill Flyers fans crave. It’s why we still exalt Giroux’s “The Shift” against the Penguins.
Michkov has the skill to dazzle and clearly isn’t afraid to back down from conflict, even as a young rookie. He and his teammates get along great, and we’ve seen them come to his defense, but he’s not afraid to mix it up either.
It’s electrifying stuff. The kid is the perfect Flyer as far as I’m concerned.
So just sit back, relax, and enjoy all Matvei Michkov has to offer. And whatever you do, don’t act this like coward. What the hell is he even talking about?
Matvei Michkov is going to be a superstar for the Flyers in the future, but tonight we were inches away from having to write a story of him hitting a referee. The Flyers knew what they have in Michkov, but his discipline needs some work before it becomes a bad habit #LetsGoFlyers
