NFL finalizes Week 17 schedule including three games on Saturday and a flexed matchup on Sunday Night Football
The NFL is doing its annual Week 17 shuffle, setting up a slate that ensures maximum drama as teams fight for their playoff lives.
The league announced three standalone Saturday games for Dec. 28 on NFL Network and flexed a new Sunday Night Football matchup to Dec. 29. Here’s the breakdown:
NFL on Saturday, Dec. 28 (NFL Network)
- 1 p.m. ET: Los Angeles Chargers at New England Patriots
- 4 p.m. ET: Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals
- 8 p.m. ET: Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
Sunday Night Football, Dec. 29 (NBC and Peacock)
- 8:20 p.m. ET: Atlanta Falcons at Washington Commanders
And in a smaller scheduling tweak, the previously slated Sunday Night Football matchup between the Dolphins and Browns has been bumped to a 4:05 p.m. ET slot on CBS.
What to Watch for on Saturday
Each of the Saturday games features postseason implications, with some teams hanging on by a thread and others fighting for seeding.
Chargers at Patriots (1 p.m. ET)
The Chargers (8-6) are clinging to the AFC’s final wild-card spot, but after dropping two straight, they can’t afford to stumble. While the Patriots (3-11) are long gone from the playoff race, they’d love to play spoiler, especially at home. Expect this to be a must-watch for Justin Herbert’s playoff push.
Broncos at Bengals (4 p.m. ET)
The Broncos (9-5) are on fire, solidifying themselves as a playoff contender after starting the year as an afterthought. Meanwhile, the Bengals (6-8) are on life support and need to win out while getting help from the rest of the AFC chaos. It’s Joe Burrow’s last chance to salvage a disappointing season.
Cardinals at Rams (8 p.m. ET)
The NFC West title race takes center stage in the primetime slot. The Cardinals (7-7) and Rams (8-6) are both chasing playoff berths, with the Rams currently leading the division. This game has the potential to shake up both the divisional race and the wild-card standings.
Sunday Night Showdown: Falcons at Commanders
The Commanders (9-5) are in the driver’s seat for an NFC wild-card spot, but a loss could put them in danger with several other teams breathing down their necks.
Meanwhile, the Falcons (7-7) are still alive in the disastrous NFC South, where a .500 record could be enough to secure the crown. This game has major playoff implications for both teams, and the national spotlight should raise the stakes even further.
Week 18 TBD:
Week 18 remains the big wildcard, with times and dates yet to be announced. Expect the NFL to hold back games with the most significant playoff stakes for prime TV slots as they close out the regular season.
