Despite NBA official Jenna Schroeder’s best efforts, Sixers navigate chaos to beat Spurs, 111-106

The Sixers managed to pull off a 111-106 win over the San Antonio Spurs Monday night, moving to 10-17 on the season in what can only be described as one of the stupidist games of basketball I have personally ever watched.

Between questionable officiating, the softest flops the NBA has ever seen, and players getting ejected, this game felt less like basketball and more like a circus act.

OFFICIATING: Jenn Schroeder sets progress back a full century

Jenna Schroeder, put on an officiating performance so disastrous it might have set progress back a century. The first act in this nightmare was Andre Drummond’s phantom ejection. Victor Wembanyama flopped so hard he could’ve auditioned for the French synchronized diving team.

On the next play, Wemby tripped on thin air, and Schroeder wasted no time tossing Drummond—without even seeing the play.

The NBA is a JOKE: Joel Embiid ejected after horrible officiating in game against Mr. Softie Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs

The first act in this nightmare? Andre Drummond’s phantom ejection. Victor Wembanyama flopped so hard he could’ve auditioned for the French synchronized diving team.

On the next play, Wemby tripped on thin air, and Schroeder wasted no time tossing Drummond—without even seeing the play.

After what felt like an eternity reviewing the call, the ejection was overturned, but Drummond’s one-minute trip to the locker room felt like an eternity. He later left the game with a toe injury, which probably happened while kicking lockers in frustration.

Next up we had Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP, got called for a charge on yet another Wemby flop. When Embiid voiced his displeasure, his beard grazed the ref’s hand, and she promptly ejected him for “contacting an official.”

You literally can’t make this stuff up.

Even Guerschon Yabusele got caught in the nonsense, getting teched up for hanging on the rim. Apparently, Schroeder decided that was a safety hazard for the rim and everyone in the building.

If the NBA wants to fix its viewership problem, here’s a simple solution: FIRE EVERY SINGLE REFEREE. Check Twitter during any game, and you’ll see both fanbases complaining nonstop. The officiating has become a league-wide joke. They fall for every flop, miss blatant travels, and haven’t called a carry since disco was popular.

Thankfully, Tyrese Maxey Saved the Day

Amid all the chaos, Tyrese Maxey was the steady hand the Sixers desperately needed. He finished with 32 points, 8 assists, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals in a phenomenal all-around performance.

Maxey started slow, struggling against Wemby’s seven first-half blocks. But in the second half, Maxey took over. He knocked down key threes, beat defenders to the rim with his blazing speed, and even outran Wemby in transition.

His clutch moments—a steal and dunk, followed by a dagger step-back jumper—sealed the win in the fourth quarter. Maxey was calm, collected, and completely unfazed by the madness around him. If anyone deserved to win this ridiculous game, it was him.

Sixers – Game Notes:

• Guerschon Yabusele stepped up big in Embiid’s absence, dropping 17 points and grabbing 4 steals. Extended minutes suited him well.
• Caleb Martin finally remembered how to shoot, hitting three threes after going 2-14 from deep since late November.
• Kyle Lowry and Reggie Jackson checking in together off the bench might be the most embarrassing moment of the season for Nick Nurse and Daryl Morey. Watching two of the smallest, slowest, and worst guards in the league share the court is rough.

THEY HATE THE PROCESS: Media Bias on Full Display

Of course, the national media couldn’t resist taking a shot at Philly and Embiid. One clip of the ejection came with the absurd commentary: “He approaches and steps to her like he wants to have a physical altercation.”

Seriously? This is the reigning MVP of the league arguing a bad call, not someone squaring up to fight a female official who by the way, did the impossible by admitting she was wrong about the Drummond ejection.

Meanwhile, other incidents around the league—actual contact and aggression—don’t even warrant a second look. The double standard is exhausting, but it’s nothing new for Philly fans.

The Sixers will happily take the dub

This game was chaotic, frustrating, and downright stupid, but at least the Sixers came out on top. Between Embiid’s ejection, Drummond’s bizarre non-ejection, and Wemby’s flopping clinic, this one’s going to be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

But hey, a win’s a win. Maxey’s brilliance shone through, and the Sixers found a way to get it done. Now, let’s hope the NBA refs find a way to get it together, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
