Flyers ‘get right’ in 3-1 victory over Ducks
The Philadelphia Flyers snapped out of their recent funk with a gritty 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night. With key contributions from Noah Cates, Morgan Frost, and Joel Farabee, the Flyers secured just their second win in six games.
Flyers beat the Ducks 3-1
Noah Cates Keeps Streak Alive
Noah Cates extended his goal-scoring streak to five games, tying him with Nashvilleโs Jonathan Marchessault for the longest active streak in the NHL. Cates opened the scoring early in the second period with a slick snap shot in front of the net, giving the them a 1-0 lead.
Itโs becoming clear that Cates is hitting his stride, providing a consistent offensive spark for a team thatโs been searching for answers in recent games.
Stay Frosty
Morgan Frost delivered the game-winner in the third period with a bit of creativity and a touch of luck. With no angle to work with, Frost banked a backhand shot off Anaheim goalie Lukas Dostalโs stick and into the net, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Farabeeโs Empty-Netter
Joel Farabee sealed the deal with just 2:20 left in the game, scoring an empty-net goal after serving a penalty for too many men on the ice. The Ducks had pulled their goalie for an extra skater during a power play, but Farabee stepped out of the box, stole the puck, and broke away to bury the insurance goal.
Game Notes:
- Travis Konecny Hits 600: Konecny played in his 600th NHL game, becoming the seventh player from the 2015 draft class to reach the milestone.
- Cutter Gauthier: Anaheim forward Cutter Gauthier, who was drafted fifth overall by Philadelphia in 2022 but forced a trade to the Ducks, played 13 minutes and managed two shots on goal. Gauthier also picked up a hooking penalty in his first game against the Flyers, providing a little extra drama to the matchup.
Up Next for the Flyers:
The Flyers head to Los Angeles on Sunday for a tough matchup against the Kings.
