Kellen Moore New Orleans Saints Head Coach

Report: Eagles’ OC Kellen Moore is expected to be named the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are expected to name Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their next head coach, barring any last-minute complications, per multiple reports from around the NFL.

Moore emerged as the frontrunner for the job after two strong interviews with the Saints last month. While a formal deal isn’t expected until after Super Bowl LIX, all signs point to Moore leading the Saints into the 2025 NFL season.

Saints Playing It Safe After Past Tampering Issues

The Saints are making sure they don’t repeat the Arizona Cardinals’ mistake from last offseason when they were penalized for tampering with then-Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon before hiring him as head coach.

That incident resulted in a draft compensation penalty, and New Orleans—already no stranger to the NFL’s crosshairs—wants to avoid a similar situation.

For that reason, the official hiring process is on pause until after Sunday’s Super Bowl, but there’s little doubt that Moore will be the Saints’ next head coach.

Kellen Moore’s Rise and What He Brings to New Orleans

Moore’s NFL coaching stock has been on a steady climb since his days as Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator (2019-2022), where he helped mold one of the league’s most potent offenses. He then took over as OC for the Chargers in 2023, but that season ended in disaster due to injuries and dysfunction in Los Angeles.

In 2024, Kellen Moore joined the Eagles, where he helped oversee a top-10 offense that ranked second in rushing yards per game (179.3 ypg) and eighth overall in total offense (367.2 ypg).

Now, Moore will get his first shot as an NFL head coach, taking over a Saints team desperate for offensive identity.

The Last Man Standing in New Orleans’ Coaching Search

The Saints were the last remaining team without a head coach, and while Moore was their top choice, they explored several options:

  • Kliff Kingsbury (Commanders OC) declined to pursue the job.
  • Joe Brady (Bills OC) opted to stay in Buffalo.
  • Aaron Glenn interviewed but took the Jets’ head coaching job.
  • Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver and Giants OC Mike Kafka each had multiple interviews but weren’t the final pick.
  • Mike McCarthy, surprisingly, declined interest, choosing to focus on the 2026 hiring cycle instead.

What’s Next?

Kellen Moore is expected to more than double—or even triple—his current salary, making this a no-brainer move for his career. While the contract isn’t official yet, both sides seem locked in on getting the deal done after Super Bowl LIX. If all goes as planned, the Kellen Moore era in New Orleans will begin next week.
