Trump says Eagles’ Tush Push play should NOT be banned

President Donald Trump has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the controversial ‘tush push’ play, which has been a staple of the Eagles’ offense since 2022.

The play has drawn criticism from some within the league, including Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy, who recently called it “bad for the game.” Sean McDermott also weighed in, stating the play is dangerous for players (even though his team has run it the second-most times behind the Eagles since 2022).

However, Trump sees things differently. In an interview with The Spectator, he made it clear that he does not support a ban on the play.

Trump Stands by the Eagles’ Signature Play

“I wouldn’t ban it,” Trump stated when asked about the tush push. His comments stand in stark contrast to the growing push from teams like the Packers to eliminate the play from the NFL rulebook.

While critics argue that the Eagles’ use of the tush push gives them an unfair advantage and diminishes the competitive balance of the game, Philadelphia has continued to execute it with unparalleled efficiency. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offensive line have turned the maneuver into a near-automatic conversion in crucial moments, frustrating opposing defenses in the process.

Beyond defending the Eagles’ strategy, Trump also voiced strong opposition to the NFL’s recently implemented kickoff rule. The rule, which prevents players on the kicking team from moving until the ball is touched or hits the ground, has drawn widespread criticism from fans and analysts alike.

“First of all, it’s the opposite of football,” Trump said. “Second of all, it’s actually more dangerous because you’re actually going into each other without any defense or anything. It’s much more dangerous. It is so terrible.”

Trump further stated that he personally expressed his disapproval of the rule to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, arguing that the change negatively impacts the flow of the game and detracts from the traditional excitement of kickoffs.

With NFL owners set to vote on the potential banning of the tush push this offseason, the debate is far from over. Supporters of the play argue that banning it would be an overreach by the league, punishing a team for excelling at a legal maneuver. Opponents claim it creates an unfair dynamic that goes against the spirit of competition.

It goes without saying we agree with Trump on this one. The Eagles are just better than everyone else at it, deal with it.
