Report: Eagles host standout Boston College pass rusher on top-30 visit

With the NFL Draft about a month away, the Philadelphia Eagles are busy hosting their top-30 pre-draft visits.

They’ve already used up four of their visits, all on offensive lineman. This time, they’re focusing on the defensive side of the ball.

According to 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks, the Eagles are hosting Boston College standout Donovan Ezeiruaku, presumably this week.

Donovan Ezeiruaku arrives at his pre-draft visit with the Philadelphia Eagles as one of the most polished and relentless pass rushers in the 2024 draft class. A former multi-sport athlete at Williamstown High School in New Jersey, Ezeiruaku carried that explosive athleticism to Boston College, steadily developing into one of the nation’s premier edge defenders. His meteoric rise culminated in a dominant 2024 campaign, tying the school’s single-season sack record (16.5) while adding 20.5 tackles for loss and consistently disrupting opposing backfields.

Strengths

  • Technical Mastery: Ezeiruaku is more than just an elite athlete—he’s a highly refined pass rusher. He utilizes advanced hand-fighting techniques, counters, and rush plans to keep offensive tackles off balance.
  • Explosive First Step: He fires off the ball with impressive burst, allowing him to win around the edge or set up inside counters effectively.
  • High Football IQ: His ability to diagnose protections and adjust his approach mid-play stands out. He varies his moves, showing a deep understanding of leverage and timing.
  • Motor & Competitiveness: Plays with relentless effort and a never-quit attitude, evident in his game-changing performance against Western Kentucky (14 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble).
  • Proven Production: Capped his college career by winning the Ted Hendricks Award as the nation’s top defensive end, solidifying his standing as one of the most impactful defenders in college football.

Weaknesses

  • Junior Year Regression: After a standout sophomore season (8.5 sacks, 14.5 TFLs), his numbers dipped as a junior (2 sacks). However, he rebounded emphatically in 2024.
  • Functional Play Strength: While he wins with technique and speed, he could add more power to his game to enhance his effectiveness against NFL-caliber tackles in the run game.

NFL Projection & Eagles Fit

Ezeiruaku’s pass-rushing acumen and relentless motor make him an intriguing fit in the Eagles’ defensive front. His refined approach suggests he could contribute early as a rotational rusher while developing into a high-end starter. With Philadelphia placing a premium on disruptive defensive linemen, he offers the versatility to play in multiple alignments. If the Eagles are looking for a high-upside edge rusher with the technical refinement to transition quickly to the pros, Ezeiruaku checks a lot of boxes.
