Eagles trade proposal sees star pass catcher land in Kansas City

Less than two months after the Philadelphia Eagles took down the Kansas City Chiefs in a highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch, trade rumors are heating up that could link the two franchises again — this time off the field.

While it’s nothing more than speculation at this point, one proposed deal involving tight end Dallas Goedert has started to gain some traction online. The hypothetical? Goedert heads to Kansas City in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.

Why the Chiefs Could Make a Move

NFL analyst Ethan Woodle floated the idea in a recent article, citing Kansas City’s offensive struggles in 2024. Between injuries to key weapons like Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, and Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs looked far from their usual dominant selves last season.

“Goedert could help solve both problems,” Woodle wrote. “It’s not that he would be Kansas City’s starting tight end for a decade, but he can help boost the offense now and ease the transition whenever Travis Kelce retires.”

That last point is key. Travis Kelce will turn 35 during the 2025 season, and although he’s still producing at an elite level, Kansas City has to start thinking about life after No. 87. Goedert, 29, would bring veteran experience, playoff toughness, and high-end pass-catching ability — without forcing the Chiefs to immediately hand over the keys to a rookie tight end.

Does the Trade Make Sense for the Eagles?

Here’s where things get a bit more complicated.

Goedert has one year left on his current deal and carries a cap hit the Eagles could choose to offload, especially if they’re eyeing an infusion of youth or planning to reshape their offensive scheme. At the same time, Goedert remains one of the most reliable weapons in Philadelphia’s offense — a sure-handed target with chemistry already established with Jalen Hurts.

Shipping him to a rival like Kansas City for a Day 3 draft pick? That’s a tough sell, unless the front office is convinced they can find value at the position in the upcoming draft or free agency.

With a deep tight end class entering the league in 2025, the Eagles may feel confident in their ability to reload without overpaying a veteran at the position. Still, that’s a big gamble for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.

Let’s be clear: this deal isn’t imminent. It’s not even rumored to be under serious consideration by either front office. But that’s what makes draft season so fascinating. The hypothetical becomes the talking point. A single trade proposal can spark days of debate — and that’s exactly what this Goedert-to-KC scenario has done.

Would Kansas City be willing to pay for insurance behind Kelce? Would the Eagles trade away a key piece of their offense for a mid-round pick? Probably not. But crazier things have happened — especially in April.
