WATCH: Mavericks fan screams “fire Nico” directly into the face of the GM who traded Luka Doncic
If you thought Mavericks fans were going to forget about the Luka Doncic trade, you clearly haven’t been paying attention — or you’re Nico Harrison. Either way, Monday night in Dallas was a reminder that the fanbase still wants answers, and they’re not waiting for the offseason to get them.
Right before the Mavs tipped off against the Brooklyn Nets, their GM got lit up in person. As Nico Harrison made his way through the tunnel at American Airlines Center, a fan unleashed a chant so loud and unrelenting it went viral before halftime.

Mavericks fans have had enough, and I honestly can’t blame them. Not only did they have to withstand the worst trade in NBA history, but they’ve had to deal with their returning package of players getting hurt and the season being an overall disaster.
Think about it. Just a season after making the NBA Finals, and building out a championship roster, their GM Nico Harrison traded away their best player, Luka Doncic for a bag of chips.
That said, Monday night, the Dallas Mavericks hosted the Brooklyn Nets in what should have been a routine interconference game. But before the ball was even tipped, the real action was already happening, right in the face of Nico Harrison.
The kind of chant that cuts through a building like a knife. The kind you don’t forget when you’re a GM who traded a generational superstar and still hasn’t offered a real explanation.
And that’s the point. How does Nico Harrison still have a job?
Seriously — how? This isn’t your average rebuild gone sideways. This is a team that traded Luka Doncic and hasn’t given fans a shred of transparency about the why or the how. It just happened, like a rogue asteroid smashing into your franchise without warning. One day you had Luka, the next day he’s gone, and Nico’s strolling through the tunnel like he didn’t just break the league.
There’s gotta be more to this story. There has to be. Because nothing about the trade makes sense — the timing, the return, the silence. It’s like a puzzle with missing pieces, and instead of putting it together, the Mavericks are just hoping people stop asking questions.

You know who usually gets involved in situations like this? Adam Silver.
The man can’t wait to stick his greedy little alien fingers into every basketball-related decision when it benefits his agenda. He’ll micromanage tampering cases, suspensions, CBA optics — but somehow, the Luka Doncic trade slides through like it’s just another Tuesday in the league office?
The league claims to care about competitive balance, about protecting small-market franchises, about ensuring the integrity of the game. But a 25-year-old megastar getting dealt like it’s a waiver-wire move doesn’t even raise an eyebrow? Where’s the investigation? Where’s the scrutiny? Where’s the commissioner holding an emergency press conference with an “everything is fine” backdrop?
Joel Embiid can’t even tie his shoes without Adam Silver launching a full-scale attack on him and the Philadelphia 76ers organization but Nico Harrison somehow sends the Dallas Mavericks into the shadow realm and there’s absolutely nothing to say about it?
Color me surprised.
Anyways, Mavericks fans aren’t crazy. They’re paying attention. And they have every right to be pissed off.
As for the current Mavs roster, if any of them are irritated by the crowd’s reaction — maybe take a second and ask why. This is a team without a direction, led by a front office that nuked the Luka Era and is now pretending it didn’t happen.
Fans didn’t ask for this. They showed up, bought the tickets, wore the jerseys, and watched the franchise waste the most talented player it’s had since Dirk. They’re not the problem.
If anything, the players should be mad at the organization. But hey, that’s tough to do when the guy you’re mad at is the same guy signing your checks.
Until someone explains the Luka deal — and until this team proves it has any sort of long-term vision — expect more tunnel chants, more viral moments, and more reminders that Mavs fans aren’t going to let this one go.
And they shouldn’t.
The Loss Just Made It Worse
To top it all off, the Mavs went out and lost 113-109 to the Nets. Classic. Even after winning five of their last six (thanks largely to Anthony Davis finally being healthy for more than five minutes), they still managed to drop a winnable game at home. The kind of game Luka Doncic would’ve single-handedly taken over, but, oh right, he doesn’t play here anymore.
So yeah, the ‘Fire Nico’ chants aren’t stopping anytime soon. If anything, they’re just getting started. And until Harrison is finally shown the door, every Mavericks fan with a functional brain should be chanting right along.
