WATCH: Brian Dawkins says he’s only ‘a little’ surprised Eagles parted ways with CJ Gardner-Johnson
Whenever Brian Dawkins speaks, we listen. It’s our duty as Eagles fans to honor those who’ve worn our colors into war, and no one embodied the Philly mentality quite like Dawk.
On a recent episode of the Go Birds pod with ESP and James Seltzer, Dawkins was asked to share his thoughts on the CJ Gardner-Johnson departure. His answer might surprise you.
Brian Dawkins on CJGJ getting traded
“A little bit. Not a whole lot, but a little but,” Dawkins said when asked if he was surprised CJGJ was traded. “There’s just certain aspects of how the Eagles have run things in the past… Individuals who’ve played there in the past wouldn’t communicate as raw as [CJGJ] would do often. So I thought that at some point, that would be something that would no long have him be a part of the Eagles organization.”
Fair assessment here from Brian Dawkins. The Eagles just have a certain way of carrying themselves. They hate outside noise, and unfortunately, Gardner-Johnson tends to bring a lot of that with him wherever he goes.
Personally, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Was it annoying seeing him post subtweets towards his teammates from time to time? Sure. But he wasn’t the only one who did it. Darius Slay was notorious for saying dumb shit on social media and the Eagles kept him around for five years.
It is what it is at this point, nothing we can do about it.
