17-yr-old boy stops analyst to talk about Caitlin Clark on the Atlantic City Boardwalk

You want proof that Caitlin Clark has grown the game of women’s basketball? Here it is—live and in color on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

Over the weekend, Rebecca Lobo, one of the pioneers of women’s basketball, was minding her business when a 17-year-old kid wearing a WNBA hoodie stopped her to talk about Clark and how she’s changing the game.

You couldn’t draw up a better “state of the game” moment if you tried. This is what the Caitlin Clark effect looks like in real life. Not just TV ratings, not just social media buzz, not just jersey sales. Real impact, real people, real growth.

And shoutout to that kid, by the way. That moment says it all. A few years ago, you wouldn’t have caught a teenage boy on the Boardwalk even thinking about women’s basketball, let alone rocking a WNBA hoodie and talking it up with Rebecca freaking Lobo.

Reality Check: 10 million fewer people watched the Women’s National Championship this year because white girl Caitlin Clark wasn’t playing >>

You don’t have to like her. You don’t have to root for her. You don’t even have to watch her (although, judging by the numbers, most of you are). But you will respect the fact that she changed everything. And while there have been many women in the past and present that have grown the game, let’s be honest here, Caitlin Clark is the Michael Jordan of women’s basketball.

One 17-year-old fan in a WNBA hoodie on the Boardwalk just made that crystal clear. There’s just no denying the influence she has and it has even rubbed off onto some NBA players.

As the official Caitlin Clark reporter/merchant of TheLibertyLine, it brought me great joy to finally be able to write something about my GOAT.

And while we’re at it, that 17-year-old kid who stopped Rebecca Lobo on the Boardwalk… you know what he probably did right after? Went straight to the nearest stand selling those bootleg basketball jerseys you always see alongside the Jersey Shore Boardwalk. You know, the ones that have the “Caitlin Clark” jersey with a totally questionable number font that looks like it was printed on a knockoff printer.

They could have turned that whole moment into social media gold: Rebecca Lobo trying to sink some shots in one of those overpriced basketball hoop games on the Boardwalk and winning the kid a legit Caitlin Clark jersey. Now that would have went viral now, wouldn’t it have?

Sorry, I can’t help myself

As a blogger and social media content creator, that’s just how my brain works. Anyways, I highly encourage you all to at least tune into the Indiana Fever this season; they are must watch television.

Caitlin Clark and the Fever tip-off their season against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Saturday, May 17th.
