Pistons get screwed by the refs in game 4, Knicks steal a controversial win as NBA officials release their statement following the game

Let’s just call it what it is: the Detroit Pistons got absolutely robbed by the officials on Sunday night, and it likely cost them their season.

One of the Worst No-Calls You’ll Ever See — The NBA Should Be Embarrassed

With the game hanging in the balance, Josh Hart clearly fouled Tim Hardaway Jr. on a three-point attempt. Full body contact. Knocked him off balance. No doubt about it. And what did the refs do? Nothing. Swallowed their whistles like a bunch of cowards.

Knicks vs. Pistons ending…

If the roles were reversed? You already know how that would’ve played out. If a Knicks player so much as gets breathed on, the whistle’s getting blown faster than Stephen A. Smith yelling about how the Knicks are “back.” The Knicks are the darlings of the NBA right now, and it shows. They get every call, every soft whistle, and every bounce their way because the league would sell its soul to have New York make a deep playoff run.

I mean, Jalen Brunson is the new poster boy for this awful trend where NBA players jump backwards into players to draw fouls. It’s disgusting and it’s ruined the game. And look, while I may hate the New York Knicks and their fans, Jalen Brunson has a soft spot somewhere inside of me still since I am a Villanova Wildcats fan.

To continue here, Knicks fans—the loudest, most obnoxious group on the planet—are acting like they just won the NBA Finals. These are the same people who riot in the streets after winning a first-round playoff game and pretend like they’ve been some powerhouse franchise when they’ve been bottom feeders for the better part of 20 years. Now that they’re finally relevant again, they can’t even handle a little bit of success without losing their damn minds.

In “shocking news” to literally no-one

After the game, the officiating crew admitted they screwed it up. Crew chief David Guthrie flat out said Hart should have been called for a foul. Cool, thanks for the honesty, but that doesn’t exactly help the Pistons now that they’re down 3-1 heading back to that rat-infested dump known as Madison Square Garden. Cool stadium, nonetheless.

For what it’s worth, I’m fully on the Pistons bandwagon in this series. Cade Cunningham is a star in the making, they play with a lot of toughness and girt, and honestly, Detroit fans are handling this resurgence way better than most fanbases would. They’ve been through hell with this franchise, and now that they finally have something to cheer for, and their not acting like total lunatics about it.

Detroit Basketball is back, and it’s great for the Eastern Conference

At the end of the day, though, none of that mattered because the officials decided they wanted to be part of the storyline. If they actually did their jobs, Detroit likely ties the series 2-2, momentum shifts, and we’re looking at a whole different series heading back to New York. Instead, the Knicks escape with a win they didn’t deserve, and the Pistons get left wondering what could have been.
