Return of the Fullback: Eagles vow to resurrect dying position

Given how dominant the Eagles were on the ground in 2025, it should come as no surprise they’re embracing the long-lost art of using a fullback.

In a conversation with the morning crew at 94WIP, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie made it clear — he’s on a mission to resurrect the dying position.

In a league dominated by high-powered passing attacks, the Eagles have turned back the clock. They’ve become the quintessential ground-and-pound team of the modern era. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley combined for 27 rushing touchdowns last season. The team ran the ball 173 more times than they threw it — and Hurts didn’t even eclipse 3,000 passing yards.

Haters and losers will say that’s because Hurts can’t throw, but anyone with eyes and two functioning brain cells knows he simply didn’t need to.

The next natural step in this evolution? Reintroducing the fullback. Defenses haven’t had to account for a true fullback in nearly two decades. Now they’ll be forced to deal with the unstoppable trio of Hurts, Saquon, and a lead blocker clearing the lane.

For football purists, this is poetry in motion. It brings a smile to my face knowing my favorite team is bringing the fullback back.
