Britain Covey Heads West: Former Eagles Punt Returner Signs with Rams
The Britain Covey Era in Philly is officially over. After three seasons with the Eagles, the 28-year-old return specialist is heading to Los Angeles on a one-year deal with Sean McVay’s Rams.
It’s a fresh start for one of the NFL’s more underrated special teams weapons — and probably the logical move after the way 2024 played out in Philadelphia.
Britain Covey Signs with Los Angeles Rams
Britain Covey came to the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2022 and quickly turned heads with his steady hands and ability to flip field position.
He averaged 9.3 yards per punt return as a rookie, then upped that to 14.4 yards in 2023 — a mark that quietly put him among the league’s best.
2024 wasn’t as kind to Britain Covey
Injuries limited his availability, and when Covey was sidelined, rookie Cooper DeJean stepped in and looked like a natural.
With the Eagles high on DeJean’s versatility and roster spots at a premium, Covey became expendable — even if he never muffed a punt and did his job exactly the way coaches ask.
Now, he’ll try to carve out a new role with the Rams, who are always looking for an edge in the return game and may view Covey as a low-risk, high-reliability addition.
