Justin Simmons still wants to join the Eagles
Justin Simmons has spent the entire offseason campaigning to join the Philadelphia Eagles. Things picked up even more after the CJ Gardner-Johnson trade — and now he’s not holding back.
About a month ago, he told Kay Adams that Philly is his dream destination. Most recently, he doubled down in a conversation with Brian Baldinger.
Get Justin Simmons to Philly already
The guy is basically openly campaigning to get to Philadelphia. Honestly, that alone makes me want to sign him. But more importantly, he’d immediately solidify the Eagles’ secondary.
Like Baldy said, the Birds have a bunch of guys competing for a starting safety spot, but none of them have the résumé Justin Simmons brings. Reed Blankenship is rock solid and already locked in as a starter. After that, you’ve got a second-round rookie in Andrew Mukuba, a third-year player in Sydney Brown who’s barely seen the field, and a journeyman in Tristin McCollum. So why not add Simmons to that group?
At this point in the offseason, he’s not going to cost much. Give him a one-year deal, let him mentor the young guys, and odds are he ends up making a real impact in Vic Fangio’s defense. Make it happen.
