Drake Curse Justin Bieber Toronto Maple Leafs Game 7

Drake blames Justin Bieber after Leafs collapse, but the Curse lives on

The Drake Curse is back in full effect — and this time, not even a million-dollar bet could keep the Maple Leafs alive. On Sunday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs were obliterated 6-1 on home ice by the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of their second-round series.

It was their second straight blowout loss at Scotiabank Arena and yet another chapter in their decades-long struggle to reach the Eastern Conference Final.

Twenty-three years and counting, Leafs fans. Brutal.

Enter: Drake.

The Toronto rapper reportedly dropped a cool $1 million on the Leafs to win Game 7.

We all know what happened next.

Rather than own up to his reputation as the unofficial grim reaper of sports optimism, Aubrey did what any self-aware celebrity would do — he tried to shift the blame.

After the loss, he pointed fingers at fellow Canadian Justin Bieber, who was in attendance for the beatdown.

Nice try, Aubrey.

Remember when Drake followed around Joel Embiid after he hit a game-winner in Toronto for Game 3 of the NBA Playoffs? Seems like forever ago. Pain.

Sports fans across North America have been watching this story unfold for years. Whether it’s a Kentucky basketball game, a UFC fight, or the Toronto Blue Jays’ front-office pursuits, things seem to fall apart the moment Drake gets involved.

Notable examples of the Drake Curse:

Justin Bieber being in the building might not have helped, but the curse clearly rides shotgun when Drake places a bet.

Sure, some opponents think Leafs players are under too much pressure from fans and media to succeed. But if we’re pointing fingers, it’s hard to ignore the guy in the VIP box dropping seven-figure bets like he’s playing NHL 25 on easy mode.

Until further notice, teams hoping to win big should politely ask Drake to stay home — and maybe keep his wallet closed.
