Relentless Jalen Hurts Slander: Former career backup continues his agenda against Eagles QB
Chris Simms never misses a chance to take shots at Jalen Hurts. He had one brief moment of clarity after Super Bowl LIX — when Hurts walked away with the MVP — but outside of that, it’s been non-stop disrespect.
So when ProFootballFocus dropped their QB rankings and slotted Hurts at No. 5, of course Simms had to chime in.
He ran straight to Colin Cowherd on The Herd to talk his usual trash.
Simms once again, talking out of his ass about Jalen Hurts
“I would put CJ Stroud over there in front of Jalen Hurts,” Simms said. “We have a little bit of a revisionist history here. He won the Super Bowl and everybody just forgot about the 10 weeks before that. That we were like ‘Wait, the passing game and the quarterback was the issue.’ His top receiver said ‘What’s wrong with the team? The passing game.’ How can you now be one of the best quarterbacks in the game? I think I would have CJ Stround in his place on that tier.”
Let’s break this down.
The whole “revisionist history” angle is laughable. This idea that Jalen Hurts somehow wasn’t good last season? Completely fabricated by the media. He had one off game—against the Panthers. AJ Brown vented postgame, and the media took that sliver of frustration and ran wild, spending an entire week questioning if Hurts was even a starting-caliber QB.
What did Hurts do next? Came out against Pittsburgh, completed 78% of his passes, scored three times (two passing, one rushing), and totaled 335 yards. Still wasn’t enough for Simms — or the rest of the NFL media. Then Hurts took the Eagles to the Super Bowl. In the NFC Championship and the big game, he combined for 555 total yards, 7 touchdowns, and completed 74% of his throws.
Did that shut them up? Of course not. Because here we are, rewriting history with Chris Simms leading the charge.
There’s a pattern with ex-quarterbacks in the media. The career backups — Simms, Chase Daniel, that whole crew — go out of their way to bash Hurts. Meanwhile, the legends — Brady, Peyton, the guys who actually mattered — show nothing but respect. I’ll take their word over Simms’ every damn time.
And now people want to put CJ Stroud over Hurts? Why? Because he’s having a sophomore slump? He had an 87 QB rating last year — Hurts hasn’t dipped that low since 2021.
It’s exhausting. These takes exist purely to bait people like me into snapping. And I’ve fallen for it — I’ve basically written a dissertation defending Jalen Hurts. But sometimes, you have to fight fire with fire.
Fuck Chris Simms.
