Eagles Haason Reddick

Eagles dodged a bullet by moving on from this Pro Bowl pass rusher when they did

Haason Reddick has done little to nothing since leaving the Philadelphia Eagles. Every time his name pops up in the news, it’s no longer about his on-field performance — it’s about contract disputes.

Last season, the Eagles traded Reddick to the New York Jets, where he appeared in 10 games and recorded just one sack. He held out for most of the season, hoping for a contract extension that never materialized. This year, he hit free agency and signed a one-year deal with Tampa Bay.

Despite his new $14 million contract with the Bucs, Reddick was still a no-show at OTAs.

Like most Eagles fans, I was disappointed when the team moved on from Reddick two years ago. He racked up 27 sacks over his two seasons in Philly, earning two Pro Bowl nods and a second-team All-Pro honor in 2022. But signing him to the type of deal he was reportedly seeking — somewhere in the $25 million range — would have been crazy, and he’s proving that now.

He’s now 31 and still seems to want a big payday, despite doing little to nothing last season with the Jets. Above all else, skipping OTAs is never a good sign. Coaches want everyone present, even if they’re technically voluntary. Championship-caliber teams, like the Eagles, typically get 90–95% of their players in the building for OTAs.

For all of Reddick’s pass-rushing prowess, he doesn’t seem all that serious about chasing a title. He’s more focused on the money — and more power to him. I’m just glad he’s not pulling this act in Philly anymore.
