Eagles OTAs: Notes from OC Kevin Patullo’s first press conference
Kevin Patullo spoke with reporters on Wednesday for the first time since being named the new offensive coordinator.
He addressed several topics ahead of the Eagles’ first OTA session in front of reporters. Let’s break it all down.
Offensive changes in 2025
When discussing how different the offense will look without Kellen Moore, Patullo emphasized the need to expand on what players do best.
“Well, as far as different, we go through the process at the end of each year of examining what we do well, what we need to improve upon, and then really any trends or anything, we see that we can add to it.
“So I think when you say different, I think it’s going to be like, what do our players do best? And then from there, we just expand upon it. Hey, we’re really good at this. Let’s bring this to the table and try this and see where we can take it. And I think really, when you look at just our staff as a whole, we’ve added some new coaches, so they bring some other layers to it too, and then the knowledge of what they have from their background.
“So I think as we go forward, as we build this thing together as a staff, you’ll see some new wrinkles here and there, but more so it’s just kind of building on what our players do best.”
Tush Push surviving another season
Patullo spoke about the tush push surviving the ban and how it will remain an integreal part of the Eagles’ gameplan.
“It’s great for us. We get to continue to use it and then have our compliments off it and do different things. So it’s fun. You know, it’s something we’re passionate about. We’re very detailed about. We put a lot of work in as a staff, and it’s exciting to be able to continue to use it.“
What Patullo brings to the OC role
When asked about what he will bring to the offense that he couldn’t last year, Patullo spoke about his experience and close relationship with head coach Nick Sirianni.
“I think really comes down to just my experience. I’ve been here with Nick since day one, knowing the guys and understanding them, their skill sets, what they can do, and kind of being in a different role to where I saw big picture at all times. And now I can concentrate on certain things.
“I’ve been in each room, every year, kind of with the receivers and the quarterbacks, and kind of spread my knowledge around. So now it’s just a matter of getting to know the players at a different level, but they still trust me in that capacity.”
Dallas Goedert returning
Patullo expressed excitement in having TE Dallas Goedert back after the Eagles explored trading him this offseason.
“Dallas is awesome. You could feel his presence out there yesterday, and just doing our 7-on-7 stuff. We’re so glad to have him back. He brings a very unique, different style of play to the offense, and he’s another weapon to add.”
Interview process
Patullo spoke about the interview process and how he’s been interviewing for the offensive coordinator position for several years.
“When it comes down to the interview, you’re interviewing every day, right? So for the last four years, I’m essentially interviewing with Nick, the staff, the players, once we start the interview, it’s of all about football, how you gonna use personnel, what you’re gonna do, and you know, how you’re gonna put the team in the best spot?”
Continuity on offense
Patullo addressed how he’s coming into the job with most of his starters returning and the importance of continuity.
“It’s huge, right? Because everybody knows each other. When it comes down to it, when they’re out there playing, they’re problem-solving. Ultimately, you don’t always know what you’re going to get as an offense. So those guys can walk out there in the field and be confident in what they’re supposed to do, but no matter what happens, they feel like they can problem-solve and do the best together.”
